Had some semi results from my horses ct today. My vets don't have the results yet but they spoke to the vet at the surgery the ct scan was done at who has looked at the results and he has said possible two teeth are infected!!!

So major worry head on now they don't want to remove the teeth really and have suggested possibly filling the cavities. Has anyone heard of this, know the success rates and costs involved?

Or depending on results may have to remove the two teeth and flush the sinuses?

I have about 3300 left in my insurance and am worrying about this as well as the implications of either of the treatments above. Anyone gone through this themselves, can offer any advise, priced and experience?

I think there have been big changes in the way vets can treat horses with much better outcomes than used to be the case. In your place I would just double check that your vet is up to date on many of the latest treatments. Pete Ravenhill at B&W equine is a dental specialist, not sure whether you would be able to speak to him, but he is doing lots of work on performing these surgeries/treatments in a non intrusive way.

Well....that is bizarre!
Looked at my profile...and there is the post....me thinks H&H may have a virus:(
Hope you get your horse sorted....and I guess you may well have not posted this again..... the wonders of teknology!
Best wishes

Hi Bryndu yes got your reply dunno why it's disappeared. Hmm yes I dunno what will be done yet just want it to be successful and under my insurance amount left.

Filling the cavity all the way!! Chris Pearce at barn equine near Southampton has been trialling this with great results. Anything to save a tooth and to prevent the removal of a tooth has to be worth a try. I was mis guided and advised that my horse needed 2 teeth removed. They pulled one... That didn't help so pulled another... After which I had enough...
Filling will be cheaper and far less invasive than pulling tooth out, future maintenance far easier too. Got to be worth a try!?!

Hi again....hope we don't all disappear again..lol :)
The treatment my boy had cost £30 for the antibiotic...plus re xray....so mega cheap....worth an ask?
Best wishes

I've been quoted cheaper to remove the tooth and I am not sure how filling the cavity will get rid of the infection. Had my dentist looked today who recommended filling and just had another dentist message me wanting to come have a look. Any advice is good advice I guess?

When Chris P did my horse's filling he drilled out all the ***** and packed it with anti microbial stuff, then a month later did the filling when all the nasties were killed. The filling will last for as long as the horse does and requires no maintenance . Suppose you need to weigh up implications of losing the tooth? Why don't you speak to Chris direct?
