My welsh cob has a big sarcoid on his lower chest. I tried Thuja (drops in feed & cream) which reduced it in size dramtically and probably would have got rid of it completly if I hadnt ran out weeks ago! Anyway, I had the farrier a few weeks ago and he said that fluoride toothpaste works. Ive now used it for 3 days, twice a day and this morning its hanging off and clean :)
Anyone else ever had good experiences using toothpaste?

Never heard of toothpaste being used on a sarcoid before.. but there are lots of treatments out there for sarcoids including supplements, injections and loads of others.. personally I'd be getting the vet out for a sarcoid to look at treatment options xx

There's a world of difference between something that LOOKS like a sarcoid and something that IS a sarcoid. Think yourself lucky - if it was a true sarcoid, that is a form of skin cancer. You have to ask yourself if you had a skin cancer on say your arm, would you smother it in toothpaste and hope it worked? Or would you leg it straight down to your GP the next day screaming for help? Many, many odd lumps and bumps on a horse's skin are NOT true sarcoids. There is a school of veterinary opinion that says if it looks like a sarcoid then treat it as if it IS one because the only definitive way to identfiy a true sarcoid is to take a biopsy and, unfortunately, any surgical interference to a sarcoid can promote an aggressive growth spurt. Your horse's "thing" was clearly not a sarcoid and I'd bet that it's cleared up in spite of what you did rather than because of it. Sarcoids = vet. Odd lumps and bumps = self care to begin with.

yes i have had massive success with toothpaste on confirmed sarcoids (by vet). used it for about two weeks and sarcoid dropped off and healed over. this was on her neck, so probably wouldnt use close to eyes, nose etc, but yes I can confirm I have used it with great success.

I replied about a sacoid post in the last 24 hours and mentioned that Vitamin E cream is very good for getting rid of sarcoids but I feel this is the rubbing action on the sarcoid that makes it fall off (if its a small sarcoid). So you might have something with the toothpaste, its slightly abrasive action rubbed on might be what worked rather than the toothpaste itself.

yes friend used it on pony - its only a specific brand and its one of the ingrediants - it did help to reduce it - although it was huge and did need liverpool in the end - the toothpaste must have taken it down by half (in between front legs!)

Jeez I can't believe this! The only way to definitively confirm that a dodgy patch or lump is a TRUE sarcoid is by biopsy. Toothpaste on a wart won't make the blindest bit of difference. Toothpaste on a minor skin abrasion or infection probably won't cause too much damage although the abrasive action could scrape away new skin cells as they are trying to form. ANY form of regular gentle cleaning would also help - there is a placebo effect too. But be sure that a true sarcoid can be kicked into a much more aggressive phase by any aggressive intervention. Ye gods - if toothpaste was a definitive cure for sarcoids then sarcoids wouldn't be the nightmare that they are. Toothpaste is however, very very good at cleaning teeth. Try this test: next time you're in your GP's surgery, ask him/her whether toothpaste is a recognised cure for skin cancers.
