I was schooling my boy today when I finished hubby said "are you not going to make him do some running and stuff?" as I had done walk and halt for half an hour.
"No" I said - "We were working on bending through corners and softening his jaw" - at 4yrs old he has already learnt to fix his neck, get hold of the bit and is very hard mouthed! (I'm guessing from having been driven when younger) Today was the first time I have ever, in 9 months, known him mouth up and he did a great job listening and softening :D

So was just wondering what exercises people would have in their top three for suppling / bending a horse - as this is our next challenge!

It's late so hot chocolate with cream and a flake for all readers x

Off the top of my head and probably without brain engaged (!) I use:

Serpentines and demi voltes as they involve lots of bend changes,
Leg yielding from small circle out to larger circle progressing to straight line work later,
Always widen the hands away from neck if having trouble getting the bend but making sure the horse doesn't fall in / out.

Sorry, I'm having my first 'lay in bed' morning EVER and it seems to have affected my brain lol!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

ETA Well done for the progress!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

could also try leg yielding on to smaller circle - change bend and then leg yield out to larger circle (variation to Tennessee's 2nd exercise). With the serpentines you don't have to stick to just 3 loops try to fit in as many as he feels comfortable with and you could try transitions over the centre line on the serpentines and adding various size circles on the loops of the serpentine.
