I don't really have a favourite breed - a dog is a dog and as good as how it is brought up as far as I am concerned, however, must admit to having a VERY soft spot for Staffies, and I am so sad they are so overbred, mistreated and unwanted.
Just to quickly put my oar in on the Pit Bull debate, the Pit Bull was originally bred from our Staffies. They are not huge dogs - medium size best describes them. From the Michael Vick dogfighting case where 51 Pit Bulls were seized, only two were originally put down - one for aggression and one for medical reasons. 47 of these dogs went to be rehabilitated and many are now therapy dogs and family pets. Also, interestingly enough, many of the Vick dogs turned out to be Staffies!!
There was a breed of dog in the 1900's that was more feared than the Pit Bull is today. Any guesses? Well, it was the Bloodhound!
The GSD, The Dobermann, The Rottie, etc, etc, they have all suffered from "dangerous dog" persecution - the Pit Bull is the latest victim. Bloodhounds were not just pitted against other dogs, but were used to fight men, too!! Yet nobody sees these dogs as dangerous today.
