If you had unlimited amounts of cash and some stunning mares at your disposal which sires would be on your top 5 list and why?

Mine changes daily but will make a shortlist and post it soon lol

Ok, here's my top 5 (today lol) in no particular order...

Argentinus - Lovely big chunky boy, i have drooled over his youngstock for years, produces big moving, chunky babies and he is the sire of Arko lol.

Silvio II - Amazing showjumper, progeny doing well.

Sunny Boy - Adore this stallion, great lines, produces fabulous babies from what i've seen.

Quaterback - Just love the look of him and the way he moves, amazing.

Baloubet Du Rouet - Beautiful stallion, very elegant, proven sire of showjumpers, just love him.

(I also love Chequille Z and Corland)

Argentinus - because he can sire both top level dressage AND jumping sires. Liked him well before Arko came on the go and although Arko is super horse he is not my favourite of Argentius offspring.

Cassini I or Corrado I - Outstanding Holstein jumping stallions with proven ability and it takes a lotto win to purchase any quality stock by them...
grin.gif

Stakkato - Just been named Hanoverian Stallion of 2007. Has incredible jumping stock and ranked one of the top jumping sires in Germany.
cool.gif

Stedinger - Beautiful beautiful beautiful......and his stock are to die for...
cool.gif

Eurocommerce Berlin - Seen some OUTSTANDING 3 year old colts at Den Bosch this year by him....amazing jumping ability..
grin.gif

Sandro Hit - Would never say "no" to this outstanding sire..
cool.gif

As I say my list could go on forever as I find it so hard to just pick 5 stallions. There are a multitude of lines I like....also love the Rubinstein, Donnerall and Florestan lines. Quarterback is outstanding, so is the young KWPN sire Vivaldi, whos stock have done exceptionally well in Holland this year. The Sandro Hit son, San Remo ridden by Susan Pape....throws tremendous stock. Love the Numero Uno offspring and also Indoctro and Clinton.....like I say my list is an endless one...

Sorry this list is just going to have to be a lot more than five!!

In the Wings- TB racehorse sire by Saddlers Wells, has produced some outstandlingly athletic, short coupled types that would be superb for eventing

Linamix- another TB racehorse sire- as above

Bering- another TB racehorse sire- a real stocky powerhouse, with superb limbs. Grandson of Sea Bird ( like Mayhill ) and Owens dad!

Sandro Boy- have had a grandson of Sandro before- and my god that horse had the most exceptional athleticsm and themperment.

CRUISING- all time favourite Irish sport horse jumping sire.

JUMBO

Corland- superb type which has plenty of TB in him.

and sires that are now deceased;

ROCK KING.

PRIMATIVE RISING

CAVALIER ROYALE

You would probably pick up a For Pleasure foal quite reasonably because for some reason they dont seem to be the most popular with buyers....
crazy.gif
...noticed that this year with the prices they were getting at the auctions.

Forgot Sandro Boy. We were recently looking at a colt by him out of a very good dam line, but decided not to go any further with it for the time being. Was in the 5 figure region.....

.....

Heartbreaker also a doll, that is why we kept the filly we bred by him this year.

yea ive heard that but his stud fee is still so high !!!

Id like to breed from Sandro Boy to my mare actually and heartbreaker - do you think id get a nice foaly xxx

All of Heartbreaker's offspring ive seen have amazing jumps - so athletic !!

My friend wanted to use Eurocemmerce Berlin this year but her mare wouldnt take !! xx

Can it include those dead?! If so my overall list would probs be (way over 5!):
Jumbo
Mayhill
Primative Rising
Cavalier Royale
Louella Inschallah (If I could use a TB to dilute some of his hanoverian bloodlines.)
Edmund Burke (due to his robustness and proven ability of his stock - don't we all want a Rocky!)
Accondy
Saddlers Wells

Keeping an eye out for how Chilli Morning's career progresses! Don't think he has much on the ground yet, so would wait to see how they develop first, (plus the less said about the rider, the better!)

Not so much the dream shire, but if I was to breed something now, I would investigate trying to find some More Pokey frozen semen.

What you will find is that all the top stallions tend to have very poor semen quality, which does not help coupled with the semen prices, which is why the prices for their stock are so high. For Heartbreaker you can only use him if you send your mare to the Nijhofs. For us last year it took three tries with the mare on the premises in Holland to get her in foal with Heartbreaker.

Heartbreakers are hot headed, so you need to put them onto a very laid back mare. With our mare Bella we were using either Clinton, Heartbreaker or Verdi. We loved Clinton but he spends a lot of time in the air, as does our mare, so this combination would not have been good, because the resultant foal, although could have been a phenomenal jumper could have been very slow in jump offs.

So we then had to decide between Heartbreaker and Verdi. We went with Heartbreaker (as my hubby ALWAYS wanted a Heartbreaker) due to his quickness on the ground and we (and Henk Nijhof) felt that he would be the better match with Bella (as she is a very careful jumper). We tried him twice and had no luck, we then tried Verdi (also with no luck) and on the last attempt went back to Heartbreaker....and THANKFULLY the mare took.

She was at the Nijhofs from the February through to the August....so as you can imagine the invoice was not a small one, as Heartbreaker semen is 1750 euros, and that does not include the livery, insemination costs, tax etc.

However, Jeanette was excellent and kept us informed through the whole process, and now we have a gorgeous filly.

I have been to Nijhoffs last year and got to see heartbreaker and go in the stable with him and i liked him before that but after seeing him in the flesh he was amazing !!!

Ive heard that his seamen quality isnt fantastic but I think would still send my mare over there !!!

oh this is fun! ok got a few more than five, mostly event sires (not to clued up on sj/dr stallys!):
Cavalier Royale
Jaguer Mail
Primitive Rising
Welton Crackerjack/Apollo/Louis
SummerSong
Mayhill
Happy Monarch ( or was it ,Just a monarch??!)
State Diplomacy
Voltaire
Dutch Courage
Unfortunately I think most of these are dead- hence why I cant decide what to put my mare too!
just throught of another: Cruising!

Humm can I stick to 5. Off the top of my head today (as like the OP this list fluctuates)

Cornet Obolensky - movement and jump and just a fabulous quality in his foals
Hofrat - He has such presence even standing in his box, would suit some of my mares perfectly
Summertime - another Trakehner stallion and one that you cant get chilled over here, but stamps his stock as big, good moving sporthorses with super attitudes.
Weltmeyer - my all time favourite, that hind leg action I adore
Stedinger - just adore the way he stamps his foals like himself, tall and long legged and that movement!!

Forgot about For Pleasure...love him, if he was human I would have his baby lol

Well.......

Chellano Z - havent seen anything by him I havent liked

Lohekey Helios de Bornival - from the way some of his babies jump I think he's a serious contender for producing amazing babies - shame he started covering so late in life but I'm LAUGHING cause I got one!
tongue.gif

Heartbreaker

Lucky Boy

Gestion Lingh - strange but true I adore him!

Also anything with Quidam De Revel or at least Jalisco B in it, Quasimodo who was in the brightwell future stars (sj) auction looks interesting too - hope he's kept entire........

ABDULLAH
Blakeney
Caprimond
Cavalier Royale
Coolcorron Cool Diamond
Desert King TB
Grannox
HAND IN GLOVE
Jumbo
Tamure TB but this could be because his dam was by
Weltgeist

It is really hard, because you keep remembering stallions, but I have tried to stick to recent stallions where I can. I would also like to experiment with a large Arab like the one advertised in last wks H&H. If he was still alive Scindian Magic would be considered.

okay, in no particular order:
Jumbo
Alderbrook (because my new tb mare's by him and has got the most amazing temperament, and apparently he's known for that, and for toughness)
Cavalier Royale
Cruising
any Skyboy lines, as my Advanced mare was by Skyboy.
Master Imp
i'm not really up on the sj bloodlines, but if i could breed from any mare ever, i'd nick Weihawej for a year. No idea what i'd put on her.
And for dressage i'd nick Blue Hors Matine, and put something phenomenal on her.
And for eventing, of course, my ideal brood mare would be Headley Britannia.
big dreams, huh?
wink.gif

I'm pretty new to breeding and only really know eventers so mine aren't probably the best but they are my best of the very few I know.

King of Diamonds
Mayhill
Welton Amassabor
Mill law
Up with the Lark

Proper mix for me, but here goes:

Donnerhall
Ehrentusch
Sandro Hit
Cruising (I know he throws nutters, but my god he was amazing in his time)
Chequille Z (one of the few horses ever to make me gasp audibly in public).

Abergwiffy (yes, I know he's dead)(to get a Boss relative)
Fleetwater Opposition (see above but insert Moon's name!)
Cassini 1
Chellano Z
Alma Z

Cavalier Royale (My mare is by him)
Cumano - such a shame his semen doesn't have many good swimmers!
Dompaff
Calvaro Z
Jaguar Mail
Flipper D'Elle
Painted Black
Or basically, anything with strong Cor de la Bryere lines...
