Top spec balancer

I have just bought a bag on top spec comprehensive balancer. MY tb has just dropped a little weight so I bought it to make sure he was getting all vits and minerals and to help with weight. However i have just read that it can send some horses loopy?!

So am I better off sticking with the safe and sound he is currently on ( possibly why he has dropped weight as it contains not a lot!) and adding oil? If he has a good 3 Stubbs scoops a day he should be getting his daily vit and mins requirement.
 
I think it totally depends on the horse, some feeds affect horses differently. What topspec balancer are you using, I use 'top spec cool balancer' which is specifically made for fizzy horses :) as my horse is very spirited! It contains magnesium and I find it great, didn't make my horse mad at all. Maybe try half the recommended amount then slowly add more and see how it goes? :)
 
I appreciate every horse will be different but I've fed it to my TB since I bought him at the beginning of May and he is fine.... well, he is a typical TB just out of training, but otherwise he is fine :D
 
Thank you. I initially emailed top spec with all the details of my horse explaining that I wanted it for weight gain but didn't want any fizz!! They recommended too spec comprehensive balancer. I have added a handful into his feed tonight so I will gradually increase ut until he is on the 500g recommended. Can always cut it out if it has the fizz effect!!
 
I got my boy on top spec balance a month a go and he is not fizzy at all (he left racing in April so I think would become fizzy a little bit quicker if the feed wasn't right!) I notice he has put some weight on but not sure if that is due to having more grazing and better quality food but I see a difference.
He is currently on a build up mix, top spec balancer, Alpha A and sugar beet as he needs to put on about 150kg (he is 17.1 and weights 544 kg when we last weighted him). he also gets as much hay and hayledge he can eat and a good paddock with grass.
 
Thanks for your replies. He has been on it a week now and no change. Perhaps he hasn't been on it long enough? If I don't see an improvement in 4 weeks then I will add linseed.
 
It made mine very spooky and irrational. I persevered for a long time as I thought it surely couldn't have been the feed. However in the end decided to call it a day with it and my horse returned to her lovely chilled out self.

She's doing a mix of everything including low level eventing and looks great and is sane and sensible on a scoop of honeychop calm and shine and a mug full of pony nuts.

I've decided I'm not bothering with all these vitamins and balancers. Potentially I could be doing more harm than good with them or they could end up being a collossal waste of money. As her work ups further if I feel she needs more energy im going back the traditional way and she will get a handful of oats.

Topspec works brilliant for some but not for us im afraid!
 
I have never had any issues with TB's on TopSpec - even the supposedly rocket fuel TS's! ~I currently have my 2 on the Super Conditioning Flakes - one is looking and working better than ever, the other is on box rest lol
 
does anyone feed a cushings horse the comprehensive balancer and cool conditioning cubes for weight gain? Have considered the coolstance products any help greatfully received as have a cushings horse who needs weight on and keep it on.
