I have my 12 yrold TBx on 24 hr turnout, teeth / worms/ warmth all fine, very light work once or twice a week and am currently feeding (split between 2 feeds):
Top spec compehensive balancer 500g (rec amount)
Top Spec CDool and Condition cubes half a stubbs scoop
Alfabeet 1 stubbs scoop (dry weight)
AlfaA Oil Double handful in each food plus linseed flakes and corn oil
plus ad lib haylage

He looks OK but I was hoping to just put a bit more meat on him and he is a fussy feeder in that he just wont eat a lot of food so need to pack as many calories in as I can in a small a volume as possible.
Anyway, I was at the feed store and after humming and haaing bought the Top Spec Conditioning flakes. Iknew they contained cereal in a muesli like mix but I was really surprised that it actually just looks like barley!! I know its probably just psychological but I am just thinking that this is going to blow his mind as barley = heating to me!

Anyone else used conditioning flakes and had good or bad experiences?

love them to bits!!!!! they have been the making of my tb the normal conditioning mixes made him look good but no energy when ridden where as the competition mixes gave enough energy to work but he looked really light. I feed mine with an endurance mix and I get all the condition and the stamina I have been looking for

I have one of mine on them. I wouldn't dare feed the other them, she'd explode, BUT she is really quite sensitve to cerals, more so than most I know. Shes a livewire without any help! LOL

The one thats on them is on the balancer and Alfa A as well and looks fab.

i doubt they would make anything explode- i have found them excellent for putting weight on 'hot' horses and would thoroughly recommend them.

I have one mare on them and she is doing really well, the other mare is not going anywhere near them, i was told, DO NOT feed it on oats so that is that, she is hot headed so she is on topspec cool and condition.

i'm also scared of trying mine on it. he's a fussy feeder - currently on topspec cool conditions cubes (1.5 round scoops once daily), half rations of topspec comprehensive balancer (as should be getting fair amount of vits&mins from the cubes), 500grams bailey's outshine and then as much speedibeet/alfalfa pellets soaked/alfa-a oil as i can get into him but he's an incredibly slow eater and gets bored eventually and just leaves it. he's also really really sharp and i'm scared of feeding anything with cereals in in case it blows his mind! maybe i should be brave and try a bag. perhaps i'll wait and see how you get on with it first!

LOL - I'll send the photos of me being bucked off!

You could have been describing my boy when you wrote your post!

oh, meant to say my friend feeds them to her spooky ex-racer and doesn't reckon they change him personality wise - hope that makes you more confident (although hasn't convinced me yet!)

they didn't upset my little nutter whereas speedibeet usually does for 2 weeks then he settles down. Also cannot have him on any mixes as they send him loopy, think it's the starch levels which I think are low in conditioning flakes. added lovely condition too :-)

Mine has them - they are certainly best at putting weight on that I've tried! They don't change his attitude either, even when he's fit and sharp in the summer he's the same on or off them.

My Oldenburg has them and I have to be very careful how much she has, or she is likely to leave her rider in the hedge!
