!
if it helps here is our feding history: have tried bailys no 4, A & P calm and condition, D & H build up- non of which made a diffrence & speedi beet (i think this might make him grumpy :

!), he doesn't like alfa A- it's too prickly for his sensitive mouth

. at present he gets balanced horse feeds show mix and top spec balancer with oil and garlic, twice a day, and ad lib haylage.
he only gets the balancer with the show mix for extra calories ( i know you don't really need it) this diet seems to be working a little bit, but i'm worried about him possibly loosing weight this winter.
any thoughts?

I know of at least half a dozen horses (including one of mine) of totally varying type and temperament who are on the Flakes and not one, even the hot headed types, have got silly on it. A friends tb mare (who is a scatterbrained madam) has been on it this year and has managed to put condition on dispite being hysterical and a windsucker!

I rate it highly and also use the balancer alongside.

thanks for that, think i might give them a go then.
my boys a wind sucker as well- it really doesn't help in the quest for condition!

do you just feed them with the balancer, or with other things as well?

I usee a grass based chaff (like Readigrass but a local one) plus sugarbeet. As much fibre as possible basically.

I feed them my old guy. Not made a huge amount of difference to him condition wise but he is nearly 40!!!! But same as you tried everything and the top spec, with alfalfa original and a very small handful of bran are the only things he will eat. And I add soya oil too. He isn't fizzy at all but then again at that age don't think he ever will be!!!

Go for it, I had Pidge on the feed balancer, super conditioning flakes and alfa a for just over a year and now he is up to weight I have just changed him to the cool and condition cubes. They didn't fizz Pidge up and he is 1/2 TB, but did put loads of condition and topline on. It will certainly stop him losing weight over the winter, he should put some weight on - if in doubt contact Top Spec, I deal with Nicola and she is fab with advice on what to feed. I run a supplement company and we have a new product that is more advanced than Top Spec, Blue Chip etc. Its called 365 Complete and it is nearly five times more concentrated than Blue Chip with added pre and prod-biotics, MSM for joints and biotin for feet. It puts condition on a horse in no time. It is the best product we have produced!

You can check it out at www.equineanswers.co.uk.

if you want to put condition on safely without causing excitable behaviour and help with his wind sucking you should look at the winergy website.

they have done loads of trials on horses with behavioural problems. I am feeding my tb mare their growth product and its amazing, you dont have to add anything to it at all as it is fully balanced.

They have all their research for you to look at so you can see its not just another marketing ploy!

Do you have to feed the balancer to feed these flakes? My sister won't fork out for the balancer, but her little TB could do with something like these.....

i used to feed the flakes with alfa a and equivit original. my tb looked fantastic on them and put on lots of condition when he was competing. i didnt use the balancer.

as he is now retired and as fat as an elephant my TB is on 1/2 scoop of happy hoof!!

they are fab, my veteran has the balancer, alfa a oil and the flakes and he looks smashing! however, I must say it is the alfa a oil which gives the extra bit of condition and makes the coat oh so shiny! My boy is pretty mental and on this diet is no different so no, the flakes do not fizz them up at all. I could quite easily pour some milk on them and eat them myself, they look yummy.
