hi all,

looking for some advice in regards to top spec cool balancer and the cool and condition cubes vs blue chip original balancer.

Looking at the info, do you think i could just feed the BC instead of both top specs? For info, horse is new to me and came to me needing more condition and top line, she has been on top spec now for 3-4 weeks, plus ad-lib hay over night and a good field of Dr green. she is putting on weight and top line nicely. of course, i am aiding this with correct work plan.
A friend recommended the BC to me as a quality alternative. Just wanted to know your thoughts?

thank you in advance.

Neither are something I would feed. They are also different things. The blue chip is a feed balancer. Its expensive, full of fillers and doesn't have the best vitamin and mineral profile either. The same goes for the top spec cool balancer. Something like equimins or forage plus would be a much better alternative. T

The conditioning cubes are designed for weight gain.

I'd feed something simple like grass nuts and linseed, or pink mash. I'd add rice bran pellets if you need more condition. Im assuming you arent looking to add energy? If you were oats are my go to

Haven’t used your choices as I am a bit sceptical about a lot of feeds out there that are supposed to do so much but don’t have the makeup to deliver without other additives. I use Keyflow stay cool and Keyplus, Pink Mash if diet is low on fibre or as a partial hay replacement. No extras required unless there are other health issues that require it.

I wouldn't use either both are full of rubbish fillers, for condition grass nuts, micronised linseed or Copra or rice bran like Equijewel would be what I would go for

I've used Top Spec for a long time now, and mine look amazing on it. I swapped over from blue chip after speaking to both companies at an event. TS couldn't have been more helpful, gave me samples, vouchers and plenty of advice. BC guy was enough to stop me using it!
I know people alot of people aren't keen.
If you're not necessarily looking for a weight gain feed TS Fibre Plus cubes might be worth a try. Rog thinks they are especially tasty!

A few years ago I'd have said Top Spec ahead of Blue Chip any day of the week, now I know better and would be with Leo and Pinkvboots, I'd feed only iron free and something suitable for barefoot horses. It's nothing to do with whether your horse is barefoot or not really, it's about the fact that barefoot horses show dietary issues in their feet (ie mild lameness) when a shod horse wouldn't, so they are often fed much more carefully and the feeds aimed at them are much better formulated.

I would not choose either tbh
I would go with a basic feed which is pretty cheap
Eg grass nuts or grass chaff and add
Something like Forage plus, Equimins or progressive earth.

I had my last mare on TopSpec AntiLam for several years. She just had that in some chaff. She always looked very good and the vet used to comment on this. Grazing was fairly minimal. Current pony is on their zero chaff and their light balancer and always looks in very good health.
