this is 2nd hand, as my long-suffering unhorsey OH is doing a stellar job of looking after my 3 while i'm still crocked! so, i'm relying on his report of how it worked..
he tried watering a new bag of pellets a few days ago with no luck - the water was freezing before the pellets fluffed up. i suggested trying boiling water (worth a go, delay freezing if nothing else) and... result!
apparently a kettleful of boiling water in a wateringcan of cold water, over the pellets, and they fluff up in double-quick time!
i might do that anyway now, even when it's warmer, to speed things along...

Thank you Kerilli

I'll try that with the next bag...

Thanks for that, I took out the worst of the wet at the weekend and mixed the pellets into the bed as we had no hose and the tap was frozen and I did not want to take the water the YO had carted down for drinking and wetting feeds.

May try this tomorrow if the tap is not frozen solid.

Yes I only ever use hot water as it does evaporate quickly and leaves the pellets drier and it fluffs up really quickly. I mix mine up in a large tub trug and by the time I have finished skipping it reday to add. I have 20 stables on pellets and it really is the best bedding I have ever used. I get mine from evesham at a really good price of 2.50 per bag how does that compare with others ?

i just got mine in from liverpool wood pellets, they have 9% off at the mo so on a ton it worked out at approx 2.13 a bag i think that is right.

Out of interest, how much water is everyone adding to a bag of wood pellets?
