As this forum has been such a help for all my daft questions over the years, and you've been with us since the start of our dressage journey, though we have lost at least one crucial member along the way, I thought it only right that this had to be documented here too :).

We did our Advanced tests last year and managed to gain our qualifying score, despite hats falling off and me forgetting tests! In between then and now, I have moved house and country and as such we've had a very stop start time with training and competing! However, the qualifying deadline was looming and there was no reasonable excuse in the way (asides from not remotely feeling ready!), plus you should always seize the day you never know what is around the corner.

In the end it was almost a year to the day of our qualifying test, though the weather couldn't have been more different! A105 we survived driving rain, PSG it was bakingly hot! Topaz is normally a bit rubbish in the heat, she's black and 'stocky' :p, but she tried her blooming heart out for me! We had been sharpening up her changes up on the Thursday before, Topaz remembered this and almost launched me clean off 🙈. I was very glad I’d gone for our baby spurs and the whip was dropped until chill was restored 🤣.

Short warm up as it was so hot, meant I still did not feel ready, I really could have done with at least 5 more years 🤷🏼‍♀️. However, into the test we went 😬. Absolutely amazing feeling, Topaz was so with me trying her heart out. Ok yes the pirouettes were far too big as I panicked and thought I should keep them big for our first one 🤦🏼‍♀️. Yes we had mistakes in the tempi’s, but by god they were so much better than I expected! Fours and threes are definitely in touching distance, just need to keep the control all the way through! Topaz got excited and put a three in the fours 🤣🤷🏼‍♀️. She still seems a little anxious over the changes in a test so they were a little hit or miss, but I know that if I take her out more they settle, plus I don't care what the judge thinks her extensions were mega for her!

Just shy of sixty percent with 58% (dam piroutttes lol), plus first in my section so we got a red rosette for our very first try!

The video in all is mistake ridden glory :p

For you Marie, you always, always, always told me that we could do it and you were right, I just wish you'd got to see it xx

So pleased for you x
and fully there with the seize the day thing, time is precious. So sorry you lost your friend :(

Brilliant, well done. Our trainer is all for 'seize the day' and does not see the point of hanging around at a level trying to perfect it. As a result Mr B has now done 2 PSGs and 2 Inter 1's, all this year, and is off to try his hoof at the Pet Plans next month. He is never going to set the world alight as he is a solid mid 60s horse (has been all the way through the levels) but after a number of false starts at advanced medium has decided that it is possible to do changes in a test - it just took an awful lot of time and patience.

Keep on enjoying your journey.

Thank you, really want to book another now!
Marie was such an inspiration to me, we met through this forum and she wrote for our very first BD test, life goes on but sometimes it still hits you hard.

Well done, this is awesome!!

:) Thank you, she's such a clever carriage horse!!

Oh loving this! Have really enjoyed following your journey with your dancing dressage divas. Amaaaaaaazing achievement.

Topaz is proof that if you persevere enough hard work does pay off, never ever thought we'd get to this point when we brought her home 10 years ago!

Love this, my trainer is very much the same, Topaz just needs her confidence to build in the changes, we have them nailed at home but test nerves are just getting to her still in the test, but at least she didn't down tools on me lol.

Enjoyed watching that! You can see the concentration on her face in those changes. Looks great - well done!

She tried her heart out for me, she's such a sensitive soul it means so much to me that she allows me to compete her when I know she's really quite nervous about the whole thing.

That’s so great. I know we always we want perfection and a better mark but there is something about seeing something that’s not drilled to last step that is somehow better than that perfect test which can lose all expression.( if that came out wrong I meant it as a compliment)
I think the horse is lovely and you should be very proud, she look like she wanted to do it.

well done, its nice to see someone going up the grades......

I could never be happy staying at one level, I get bored even if our scores are never going to be amazing lol!

Really liked watching that, loved the ending. Well done!! Definitely going to follow your story on Facebook!

Ah thank you, it's mostly just my ramblings with nice pony pictures, though there are some more interesting content now Skylla says she'd quite like to event :p.

Very well done, have been stalking following you here and on faceache, such improvements! X

Stalking following is always welcome! It's hard sometimes putting the warts and all stuff out, but I know I like to see the none perfect stuff as I find it more relatable somehow lol.

No I took it as a nice thing don't worry . She has so much more to give once she's a bit more confident at this level.

Looking fab!

Thank you :)

This is very encouraging to hear - I think our changes will take a while to come!

That is brilliant. What a wonderful achievement!

Thank you, feels such a mega step up but I’m still floating on the feeling of knowing we’ve done it!

We’ve been training the changes for a few years now 🙈.... just don’t give up, ever!

😂🤣😂

Well done both of you!

Felt such an imposter in the warmup, especially once I’d put the tails on, but loved every second once in the ring!

Wow that is just fabulous for you both. I often think that people who don't do dressage are not aware of how difficult it as and the work that goes into it. My trainer used to say "If it was easy everyone would be out winning gold medals"

When is your next competition?

You guys are amazing! Love your fancy carriage horses.

You'll have to not leave it so long before the next one though 😁

Sorry your friend isn't here to see you climbing into the big league. She obviously was a real inspiration and support to you

Fabulous! Well done! It takes a LOT to get there and some people will never get it.

I can honestly say I've sweated blood and tears to get Fig to Inter 2, so I know that feeling. You deserve to be there, you go enjoy every single second! You've earned it!

Oh yes to the blood, sweat and tears! You guys will always be an amazing inspiration, trying to keep hold of these feelings!

Haha quite, though I feel like we just did it badly lol! Not booked in yet...

Yes definitely better if I don’t leave it as long!

Marie touched a lot of lives, she was so amazing and did so much for so many, just hit home a little that she was 100% right in her belief but will never get to see it realised.

That was lovely to watch! Topaz always seems to be trying so hard for you.

I absolutely love this forum for the sheer variety of people out being brilliant with unexpected horses. You and the carriage horses and Milliepops and her pink pony and the Diamonds in the Rough girls with thoroughbreds and tiny Welsh ponies: it’s properly inspirational stuff!

Goes to show you don't need the big fancy warmblood to do dressage .

I really enjoyed watching that! Loved her changes and her medium looks V difficult to sit too yet you didn't seem to move a smidge! Great score and I imagine the comments were lovely too - Topaz is lovely :) x

Ah thank you, I feel like I'm bouncing all over the place still lol!

Judge actually wasn't too much of a fan :p, however, I've been around long enough to know that the marks and comments were right and the judge doesn't have to give you a pep talk in the comments ;).

Congratulations, love your posts about Topaz and Skylla

Di is fantastic isn't she? Finally got a couple of lessons with her a few weeks ago. Tried hard to arrange some many years ago when she was in Dubai much of the time. So was really good to start having some and for them to be as good as always thought they would be. She does have her work cut out with us tho' ;)

& yes have to keep moving on whilst you can, make the most of every opportunity, take the positives and learn from the negatives - hard to do but the only way in the long run

& welcome to N Wales! We can't be v far from you - it is an amazing place to live :)

Di is AMAZING! We honestly wouldn't have got to this level without her, she is a breath of fresh air as she never puts a limit on us :).

It's always worth paying attention to judges comments and not just be miffed :P, I shall be paying more attention next time to keeping her uphill though hopefully if the weather is cooler we wont struggle as much for energy!

Thank you :), love N Wales, I'm just outside of Ruthin.

We're near Corwen so also not far from Ruthin, we may run into each other at some point, some place...

Di has the pleasure of us again on Sat - just the one horse this time, will see if we can make further progress channelling all Phoenix's energy in a constructive way!

Ah yes that's not far at all! I go to Whitegate farm for lessons, they have lovely facilities :).
