HI,

Can anyone post some photos that clearly compare lack of topline with topline? I hope that makes sense.

Lack of topline - note angularity of hindquarters and the strong muscle under the neck, whilst top of neck is weak (although rather camouflaged by thick mane):

How can you tell the difference between increased fat & increased muscle?

muscle has more definition, is harder and doesnt wobble when the horse trots!!


not much top line, although well covered weight wise - note not a lot of bum and a slight hollow at the base of the neck (mare had been back in work 6 weeks)

improved topline, neck is fuller and better rounded and lifted at the base and her bum is bigger and less angular

please excuse the hidious riding!!

Very good question - usually fat is more 'wobbly' whilst muscle is firmer and more defined.
