Topping who can do it?

I have a 6 acre field that requires topping in Stourport-on-severn, any ideas on who could do this, along with the cutting of the front hedge....?

If you've got a quad bike you can get chain harrows that will attach so you can do it yourself or, get friendly with a local farmer and ask him if he will do and if so how much. Good luck.

i dont have a quad and i dont live locally to the field so dont know any farmers

I too am jealous that you have anything to top! There will be equestrian field management companies if you google/ yell.com but you're much more likely to find a sensible price from one of your neighbour farmers - talk to them and ask them to do yours when they are out doing theirs anyway so they don't have to set the gear up specially.

You aren't legally (? or certainly agricultural rules) allowed to cut hedges now until the end of the bird breeding season which is July now so can only cut from July to end Feb.

Cross posted - go and knock on farmers doors - they won't mind as you are offering them money!, the first one you speak to will know who in the local area is most likely to be happy to do a little extra work.

Yes!

Seriously there will be a local farmer who does contract work of this type if you ask around you should be able to find them.

We have our own second hand topper and harrows which OH pulls behind a 1950 Fergie tractor, which gives him much pleasure and me the jobdone.

However when I needed a hedge cut last autumn I used a local contractor who did not charge much and had the job done very quickly and neatly with the attachment on his tractor. He did mine and a couple of neighbours at the same time.

Go and find a local farmer as most will do it in between their farming. Plus they usually have good toppers etc. Agree re the hedge you cannot cut that and ideally it should be done late winter plus in the winter the arable farmers tend not to be so busy(its best to leave berries etc so the birdies have some winter food). Then get hedge cut every 2-3 years.

I think you may find equestrian contractors pricey.

Ask in local saddlery shop they will know
