is it worth the investment? I've been contemplating trying it for a while now and just cannot make up my mind. Ned is a 2 1/2 yr old newfie who is beginning his education and very slowly being introduced to lunging, long reining etc. Just feel he's lacking something, which is why hi thought of topspec. He's currently on a fibre based diet of grass nuts, alfa pellets and speedibeet(200g of each, soaked) plus equus health's winter glow/Summer shine. Thanks.

I was looking at the comprehensive balancer

TGM, he's not one that winters well, his coat is abit scurfy and he just lacks that bit of 'spark'...aside from that he's well, could just be me being a paranoid mum!

I've been thrilled with it & won't take Jim off it. I've been feeding AntiLam/Comprehensive balancer since early June & here's what I've found:

His feet, always a problem area, are better than they've ever been. They're stronger, holding shoes longer, showing less flare & he's much more comfortable which shows in his ridden work.

His coat & skin are really good, though to be fair he always has a good coat.

His temperament seems more even than it was before. Yes he can still be hot but there seem to be far fewer days when he's so hot that I'm riding at the very edge of my ability to control him while praying that nothing triggers a psycho episode.

He still has plenty of energy for his work even though I've cut down his hard feed.

Hs topline, always good due to his build, is now amazing even though he'd had loads of time off due to this blasted weather.

Mine are on Alfa A, TopSpec then I add anything they need to that, which is nothing in summer and some conditioning flakes/fibre cubes in winter.

Both look healthy, shiney, good feet and good temprements. Little one is growing well on it.

All the feeds you are giving him are unsupplemented, so it is possible that he may be lacking a few vitamins and minerals, as the grazing is unlikely to be providing much at this time of the year. Obviously much depends on the quality of the hay/haylage you are feeding him.

You have a couple of options - the cheaper one is to give him a broad spectrum vit/min supplement such as Benevit, Equivite or the powdered Top Spec Comprehensive supplement.

Alternatively, you could feed a balancer, which will provide protein and yeast/probiotics as well as the vit/mins. The grass nuts and alfafa you are already feeding will provide some protein, so you might be best looking at one of the lower protein balancers to start with - perhaps the Top Spec Lite or Leisure Time rather than the full blown Comprehensive.

Thanks guys
