torn eyelid

I have a horse who has torn her eyelid, the eye is slightly blood shot and the lid torn just a bit about her eyelash. Does it need veterinary attention or does it just need washed out?

id get the vet to have a look to be honest

I'd get the vet out pronto to check whether a stitch is needed. If the eyelid heals without the original smooth finish or with the eyelash/es turned inward, there is a possibility that every blink would damage the cornea. You can't mess about with eyes. Vet. Now.

yes we got the vet out and her eye needed 2 stitches, just hope it heals ok

Defo get the vet, my old mare took a slice off her lower lid - we have no idea how she did or what on but a surgeon couldn't have done a tidier job!
She needed drops and we had to keep an eye (no pun intended!) on it to make sure it was healing ok, there was mention of catheters to put the drops through and plastic surgery to rebuild the lid :-0 fortunately none of that was necessary and she was a perfect patient where the drops were concerned but much easier to get the vet now than after its turned nasty.

This happened to my friend's Sec D colt last year.....his eyelid healed with virtually no scar, if you didn't know it was there you probably wouldn't notice it.
