Torn Velvet Riding Hat

I have a less than a year old velvet riding hat that was in immaculate condition until my horse decided to tear the velvet with his teeth!! It looks as though if I was to stick the velvet back down it wouldn't even notice. Does anyone know what you can use to stick it down as I know that certain gues can damage a hat? Any ideas??

I believe there are glues for materials that can be bought at sewing outlets, worth a try.
