Hello everyone . Have a question about the torsion saddle . Is it just me or do other people find that I have no contact with your knees on the saddle ? Which is a little concerning as my horse tends to spook . Anyone have any ideas please help . Thanks

This will be different for everyone and relate to how long your thigh is, how much the twist forces your legs apart amd where the widest part of the horse is. Ribcages are round, our legs of course aren't, so a "knee gap" is very common, though most riders don't realise until it's quite marked. Is it a single flap design? I presume it is, in which case you'd probably not want to get into putting extra padding under the knee. Have you tried altering your stirrup length a little?

You can't really if it's a monoflap construction, with double flaps we can attach padding to the back of the main/top flap. It's a slightly complex subject, you'd need a saddle fitter versed in how to make these adjustments to get the detail right and not many are sadly, though hopefully that will change!

And knees can stick out on narrow horses, perhaps more so, it's about a lot of different factors as I said :)

Get in touch with Mariaana at Better Saddles. She stocks several brands of treeless saddles and has the Barefoot hip saver on her website, she will know whether it can be used with a Torsion or what else may be possible to use to give your saddle a bit of a twist. I have heard of some people putting padding between the seat and the base to achieve the same effect.

Yep, this may help if that's the source of the issue, there's also the Heather Moffatt hip saver, it's just you can end up spending a fair bit of money and not solving it, so I always recommend borrowing wherever possible.
