Total lack of stamina??

Did you get anywhere in the end Patterdale?
I have a big warmblood mare who is 17 now but looks better than ever. But she now ‘conks out’ for want of a better word. She cannot make it up a 5f gallop for love for money. Has to come back to walk half way up
She used to teamchase and jump plenty. I’m thinking heart or wind. She puffs and pants. She should be fit. I don’t think it can be lack of work.

Hi, im not the OP, but my warmblood was the same around 15-16years old and it turned out to be cushings, definitely recommend a test. On 1 prascend a day and back to normal crazy self

What does your vet think?
She was there last week for a work up. Super sound. He said she is sounder than most horses half her age. I’ve got some Bute to do a Bute trial but not riding consistently enough at the mo to use it. Between the weather and work. Next week should be able to do a bit more. X

Did they check her wind and heart?

He had every relevant investigation we could dream up at horsepital, all came back normal. So we decided it was just him, he was a steady Eddie. I sold him to a rider wanting a quiet safe ride, and he’s thriving. Then I bought something faster!
I’m glad I looked into it though, even though reading back I think I was being dramatic and over anxious 🙈

I’d get the vet and bloods for yours I think.

Actually one of our ponies was like this. Would barely trot. Half a Prascend a day and she’s cantering and jumping again, it’s lovely to see.

We had one the same and that's why we bought him, hunting was the only thing that lit him up. He's still about aged 27.

so in the interests of completeness, took my mare to the vets today and she has quite a significant irregular heartbeat and a murmur. Every one present had a listen as it was quite unusual. Recommended retirement certainly from any faster work. She can plod but there is a real risk she could go down at anytime.
She owes me nothing so can live her best life owning the field xx
