Our eldest (6) and I decided to take new pony for a hack today. Since we've had him we've just done the odd little ride out, up and down the quiet lanes.
Anyway, we chose a route and set off. As G is unfit we stuck to walk with just the odd trot on good ground.
Went on a bridleway (cows & sheep) and he behaved impeccibly. Came across some rather deep mud, and eldest got off to make it easier for G. In showing off, doing a games-style dismount he landed on his bum and G promptly decided he liked the look of the grass and trod on him
. Thankfully eldest was unhurt, just very cross and muddy.
We ended up doing 6 miles, which was more than intended as we had to take a detour because the mud was so bad on one of the bridleways, very deep and slippery. G was cool as anything, even faced with a tractor, a scary BT man up a ladder and inconsiderate drivers. Only worry was when he spotted another horse, he wanted to be his friend and tried following him. Despite being very hairy and having a long walk he was dry and relaxed all the way.
We had a fab afternoon, and G upon arriving home decided he had to gallop off down the field. Slipped, went head over heels and fell on his side. Nice! Got up, somehow found an extra slippery bit and went down on his nose. (he's fine..bruised ego though). Came in and sweated up..
. Not havinga cooler to hand muggins had to literally towel dry him.
Eldest has announced that he's "the best pony ever" and sat in the kitchen polishing his tack and cleaning his boots ready for tomorrow. And this from a child who 6 weeks ago never wanted to ride again after being bucked off
