Had to say goodbye to our oldie Rog today. 31 and looking an absolute picture but really starting to struggle getting up.

He'd been with us since he was 17 but knew him from 4.

Heartbroken.

I'm very sorry. But I do like to hear of horses that were loved to the end - and in your case that was a good long time. There was a post on here ages ago about seeing confused old horses in markets getting all excited at the sight of a blonde girl in a gilet, thinking their person had come to rescue them. I have never forgotten it.

He was a lucky horse to be in the same home for so long. Many years ago I was at Leicester Horse sales and there was an elderly roan gelding there. Plaited up, not very well but no owner with him. Poor old boy looked so bewildered. I so wished I was in a position to bring him home with me. At that time he would have gone for slaughter. I was only in my teens then, 70's now but it still haunts me.
