Tough Rugs!

It turns out that my Mum's new horse is great at damaging rugs. Only had him 2 or 3 weeks and he has put small holes in two rugs he was wearing before... now he has put a 6" tear in a nice Masta. He has only had it on 4 days and will be needing it for months yet! :( Not sure how he has managed it... we have never had a problem with rugs getting ripped before.

I have tried to source an 1800D Axiom as we just got a different Axiom for another horse and it's super. We didn't buy the 1800D and I messaged the seller on Ebay but they don't have any in stock. :(

Can anybody recommend a sturdy winter turnout which would be harder for him to destroy? The Masta was only a 600D I think. Needs to be 300g or more preferably, neck is nice but he'd manage without. 6'6". Cheaper is good as we have already spent a lot of money on rugs this winter!

ETA: Ah! I found them on Ebay. That is so strange... they weren't there earlier and I emailed the seller who said they had none in stock... now they're on there!? Oh well, will bid like there's no tomorrow. Other suggestions still great in case I don't win it. :)

My rug-destroyer has a Shires Stormcheeta. It's 2000 denier and 400g. This is my boys 3rd winter in his and so fer (touch wood) he's not managed to rip it! They're about £120 so not tooooo bad!

What size?
This seller is advertising 5'6, 6'6, 6'0, 6'3 and 5'9 in the 1800D combo 300grm

Otherwise I would rate the 1200D Amigo, It stood up to my yearling colts playing together!!

I've also just got a stormcheeta for my mare as it's 400grm filling (nice and warm) it certainly feels strong, but then my mare isn't a rug trasher!! lol, having to laugh at the cost as I only paid £40 for mine (standard neck) as it was clearance stock!
 
I was at the end of my tether as my friends horse was trashing my horses rugs, swinging of them, picking him up my it etc etc. I bit the bullet and bought a Rambo Wug, heart in mouth and sick to the stomach, I turned him out and years later its still going strong. They are made from Ballistic Nylon, cost the earth but I was spending £60 on cheap rugs and a couple lasted less than a week.
 
Rambo wugs - I now have two and they are really tough rugs well worth the money they are the only ones that do not need patching at the end of the rug season!
 
Shires Typoon.

Couldnt speak more highly of it. 300g, 1680D and comes either no neck, half neck or full neck - I have half :)

My boy is also takes 6ft 6 personally I think its brilliant, hes warm and toasty even in deep snow, no need to another rug, doesnt slip, get wet on the inside. brilliant :)
 
Thanks guys. My Mum now seems convinced that she can get the Masta to last... even though he has torn it within 4 days and he will need it probably for months yet. It's her horse I suppose!

Mine destroyed the Rambo in less than an hour. Best I've found are made locally here - nice heavy Cordura shell. Surely someone in the UK makes something similar? If not, P.M. me - I can provide two sources here and I'm sure they'd ship them.
 
The rug-wrecker seems to do well in Saxon rugs - his last one lasted 6 years, in which time he'd demolished a Shires, an Amigo, and a Fal-Pro. So I bought him another Saxon :) it may be bright pink, but at least he'll keep it!
 
Have a Rhino stable rug on my complete hooligan 2yo...seems to resist his efforts to customise it. He's in big trouble for pulling his new fleece cooler through the bars of his stable and trampling it into his bed. ;)
I'm afraid he's in a cast off Rambo for turnout which has been deemed not warm enough by my mare, he's not having a new one till he grows up a bit!

On the last rug destroyer I had, the Shires Typhoon was a winner, so I recommend that too.
 
Thank you! I think the mother has realised his rug does need replacing with something indestructible so will show her all your suggestions!

I'm hoping (probably in vain) he grows out of it as he is still quite babyish at 6... as soon as he sees a rug hanging over the fence or something he has his mouth on it straight away! His last two got little holes around the back end which I think he could've done himself with his teeth maybe. Not sure about this big rip though! I think he keeps squishing himself between Belle and the fence, then realising that that is not the best place to be and zooms out of the way, maybe scraping his rug on the fence as he goes (it's not wire but maybe the rough tops of the posts could rip a 600D?).

Maybe the last owners sold him because he's annoying? ;)

PS. We already love him though!
