Tough stable rug for a dirty horse

Hi, looking for a medium weight stable rug for a dirty horse...... He is an id x tb and Weatherbeeta fits hime perfectly and Masta quite well too. Am looking for a tough medium weight stable rug ie one with a tough outer shell so can brush off muck etc, can only find the Rhino Medium Stable rug but have been advised this is narrow across the chest..... any ideas, at the moment he is in a quilted type rug with is getting grottier by the day! All the rugs I can find with a heavy duty shell seem to be heavy weights.... I know I could use a turn out rug as a stable rug but thought would try to find a suitable stable rug first....any ideas appreciated!

I'd use a 1200 denier turnout rug. Premier Equine say most of their rugs are dual purpose.

buy a good dual purpose rug (an in and out rug!)(rambo or fal breathable ones) will save hours changing rugs and they never smell as on wet days the rain washes cclean! and horse never has to change out of a warm snuggly rug into a damp one in the mornings!!

...or use a cheap LW turnout over your stable rugs as will keep them cleaner and drier!

Mine has a WB turnout on in his stable during winter....easy to brush off and repels all the muck!

Horseware who make Rambo/Rhino rugs will make you a chest expander for your rug. I had to have them for my old boy. They only used to cost a fiver or so, but that was quite a few years ago...If you have problems getting hold of one pm me and I might be able to help.

Wearing a lightweight turnout rug over her stable rug works the best of my girl.

FALs are good. My one is still going strong after about 10 years now (think it's the saracen one). They're really cosy because they are very nice and deep so suit big boned horses. You can buy chest exteneders for them as well although I doubt you'd need one - I didnt and Ive used this rug on anything from a very slim TB x to a wide warmblood and welsh cob! The outer repels everything, straw etc. never sticks and I dont even notice stables stains on the outside. The inside however is white cotton so that is permanently grubby!

I have a medium weight Rhino on my 16.1hh Irish Draught and that fits him fine. Just bought it a couple of weeks ago - and got a very good deal too!
