Don't you just hate it when tourists interfere and try to interact with wild horses and wild cattle???
Earlier I witnessed several people who decided to be silly as they were stupid enough to: go up behind a horse quietly and attempt to stroke it; run right in front of cattle while they were lying down; go between a foal and its mother; lie down next to the foal; carry on advancing towards horses even when they back away and even after getting nearly bitten and kicked on the hand from a foal, going towards it again and stroking other horses near to the foal... - That was all done by one boy in the space of about 30 mins -1 hour...

Even when a horse came towards me (quite close - within 2 feet of me) I didn't move as I didn't want to agitate it, but it shouldn't have been even if I had moved because it had come towards me knowing I was there.

Another thing that annoys me is when cars go faster than necessary past horses in the road. One van even went onto the grass where other horses were at one point!

See it every summer in the New Forest. People trying to put their kids on the mare and foal really angers me! I've seen people kicked before by the ponies but if you try to tell them, they just tell you to bugger off.

It really annoys me too! These are wild animals, you wouldn't walk up to other potenially dangerous wild animals. It's just because they are also a domesticated animal people assume that their wild counterparts will be the same. I think it's ingorence more than anything.

What annoys me is that because of this forced interaction, it can lead to endangering the animals and people.

That is where I was earlier!

I know, I thought about telling them but then I found out they were foreign!

I wonder how the horses feel about this as it is unfair to put them in a situation where they are frightened... I wouldn't like it if I were them as it would piss me off and would find a way of telling them to ***** off and leave me alone!

I don't think the forest ponies are frightened by most interaction with people tbo, although i agree some people are stupid around them, and should'nt moan if they get hurt.

If I were one of the horses, I would kick them in the head. It is ignorance, however there are plenty of signs telling people they are wild animals and that they can be dangerous but they just don't pay attention. I remember once in the village where I live, some kids were chasing a foal round the roads and the door to the local shop was open as it was hot. The foal got so scared that it galloped full pelt into the shop and then got even more frightened by all the people screaming. Poor thing. I have always hoped those kids got a good telling off but no doubt the parents weren't even watching them! Sorry, makes me so mad! :o

Most of the ponies aren't frightened, but it only takes one to get upset in the herd and all hell can break lose!

I suppose that if the horses get advanced upon enough they won't get as agitated...

I agree redheadkelj I would probably do the same! Do you know if the horse was ok in the end???

What makes matters worse is the fact that the kid I saw earlier was with his parents and his mother even lay down by the foal with him! You would have thought she would know better. Presumably they were tourists, but if you visit an area you tend to have the common sense to find out about it and dangers...
