Hi all

I hope someone can help.

I'm having a tow bar fitted to my next car ready for when I've passed my trailer test.

The company have given me some options for tow bar. I know I want a fixed tow bar rather than detachable but they've given the option on 7 pin or 13 pin electric plug? I have no idea which one to go for?

I'm likely to get an ifor 505 (towed by a kid sorento).

If anyone could shed some light on whether I would need a 7 pin or 13 pin I would be very grateful.

Thank you

Depends on the age of trailer you are getting .
Newer trailers have 13 not sure from when but my IW was new last year and it's 13.
We have two older trailers that 7 .
It's a complete pain in the bum .
One defender is 13 the other and the RR are 7 we have to use adaptors .

Agee with above - my new IW trailer was a 13 but my old Bateson was a 7. However it's not that big a deal as you can either use an adapter or get the plug on your trailer changed. I would recommend the latter as I stupidly and mistakenly asked for the wrong one on our new tow bar so had to use an adapter from Halfords. After a while thought a bulb had already gone on the trailer, only to be told by the trailer service man that it was the adapter (a lot are rubbish) so he quickly and cheaply changed the plug on the trailer.

I tow with a Kia Sorento and have both a 7 and 13 on the car, the previous owner towed both a caravan and a trailer and his trailer needed a 7 but the caravan needed a 13. I have an older IW505 so currently use the 7 but if/when I upgrade to a newer model I may need to use the 13

13 pin if you plan to add a cctv system to the trailer at any point. This is equivalent to the old twin electrics. Our new Shogun had the modern 13 pin fitted, and OH upgraded the old twin leads on my 2006 510 trailer to a single new 13 pin lead. There are adaptors available, but the old trailer cable was saggy and it needed replacing anyway.

Thank you.

That's a shame as had seen some advertised as I like the idea when travelling in someone's box and they had cctv in the horse area. Bit naughty company's advertising these cameras if they aren't allowed

The passenger can view it but the driver cannot

Many have the screen on a swivel so that the passenger can view inside trailer when vehicle moving forwards but driver can select rear view of trailer when reversing
