hello!

So I'm finally looking to get rid of my Jeep after the debacle with the tow bar earlier this year and the hundreds of pounds I've spent fixing it after it then went wrong. I will NEVER buy another Jeep, ever again.

My choices for my budget are The Mitsubishi Shogun or the VW Toureg.
(ideally my budget is 10-15k, it looks like I can get something of around 50k miles, I'd rather not get something with many more miles, I've had issues with second hand cars before so want to try to limit any potential problems!).

I've heard mixed reviews about the LR discovery

Thoughts or other recommendations?! any one have experience?

That's a shame as just put my Jeep up for sale. 2009 model though and I love it.
However just upgraded to a Ssangyong Rexton which has very good reviews. Might be worth looking into?

I have done B+E test and so have full license. Does anyone tow without that!?
Plenty tow on a B only licence with a lightweight (usually down plated) trailer and one horse as long as the vehicle plated GVW added to the trailer plated MAM do not total over 3500 kg

We have a Nissan pathfinder. One of the more reasonably priced 4x4 and love it for towing. We tow an equitrek show trekka m . the car cost us 18k had done 30000 at 2 years old so should be able to find one in your budget. It is slightly more rustic than some for everyday driving but the mpg is OK and there is stacks of room in the boot for haulage, feed and the dog!

I have a Shogun, 04 plate. Seems to tow fine, not too bad on fuel- is a bit of a mare to park in small multistorey car parks, but not impossible

Exactly this with no problems, mine has now done 48k miles

We used to tow with a Toureg and it was very good, did the job perfectly - you didn't even feel you were towing a trailer. I now tow with a Freelander which does the job fine if you're not towing too much weight, I tow a 16hh in a Bateson fine but it did struggle a bit when I had to tow my 17.2hh WB.

Landrover defender ! But out of those 2 I'd go for the shogun :)

Think they are more of a workhorse than the toureg

Anything like the trooper, shogun, defender, discovery, navara/l200 will pull easily & happily !! I was at frickley the other week & all the decent 4 x4s were pulling out, everyone else was stuck! Made me realise why i didn't get a 3.5tonne!
