Help me spend money & find my next car?

Wanting to tow approx 1400kgs car will be used for commuting so needs to balance these two functions from fuel economy and fairly nice trim inside.

Viewed a tiguan said to tow 1800kgs but was an automatic 1.5 elegance. disappointed to find out that it didn’t have a heated windscreen and still a bit unconvinced by the engine size/ tow limit.

recommendations welcome

Budget 20k

I have a Tiguan as my daily car which also tows with a 2t tow capacity. However, I wouldn’t tow more than one pony in my 510 on the back of it.

Otherwise, I have a Toyota hilux which is a fantastic tow vehicle and I use for the majority of towing that I do.

There are different Tiguan models and quite a few tow 2T.
I didn’t know heated windscreens existed - always used the fan for that. And a scraper if frosty ; )

ETA We have a Volvo XC60 which tows 2.3T - so fine for a 505 plus one horse only. It is more luxurious inside however for the same budget you will get a newer model Tiguan than a Volvo. And the Tiguan is less bulky.

Just trying to decide between needing a 1.5 model 1800kg towing (187 torque) 148bhp or a 2.0 diesel 2500 towing capacity, 148bhp, 251 torque which will be more expensive to buy and run?

Only looking to tow 1 500g cob

Touraeg. I got one last year and absolutely love it. It tows my 505 as if it's not there, even with 2 in it.

ETA: Mine is 2016 and I bought car and trailer in your budget.

I have a '14 pate 2l Tiguan DSG Auto which tows 2.2t and I love it. I tow 642kg horse + an Ifor 510 Classic with it and it doesn't skip a beat.
£200 road tax, cheap-ish to insure and I get 38.4mpg combined towing/town and motorway driving as its also my everyday car.

Yes a heated windscreen would be lovely, but I don't miss it too much, I think they're only commonplace on Fords and very new cars. The only thing I am missing is cruise control (weirdly, as it has everything else, electric seats, a full display with satnav, heated seats etc.... You would think cruise control would come before some of those add-ons)

Diesel, as it may be cheaper to run a petrol but you're likely to out more strain on it and struggle with hills etc. Also go for 4WD rather 2WD
