so im desperatly hoping to get my daughter and pony out this year, have begun looking for a suitable tow vechicle- on a strict budget!! ( max £2k)

so what do you tow with?? any recommendations of possible vechicles or any best avoided??

i have zero interest in cars so not very aware of whats suitable :(

im not overly fussed if a 4x4 or if theres a good estate car

pony is only a 11hh welsh sec a, ideally would be able to tow the sec a plus a 14hh m/w and most of the towing would be done to local shows/pony club within a 30 mile radius of home.

thanks in advance of any suggestions :)

You would need a 4 x 4 to tow 2 ponies, a car won't be man enough, I have a shogun animal was a bit over your budget - but not much - it is a solid beast and tows fine

Old Land Rover Discoveries go on for ever. I had a '96 N that had 210k on it when I sold it for £1600 three years ago and currently drive a '00 W reg with 168k on it. Both have been fantastic cars and would be well within your budget.

The Tdi is probably a better bet than the Td5 though as there are fewer electrical bits to go wrong.

Steer clear of Freelanders! Apart from that there's loads, just look on Autotrader. I have never paid more than 2k for a 4x4, I have had Daihatsu fourtracks, brilliant tow cars, Isuzu trooper - just avoid the 3ltr - the 3.1td is the better engine, Mitsibishi Shogun is a workhorse too. Landrover discovery, just watch for rust. All of the above are capable tow cars but don't expect any to be cheap on fuel!!

I am on a budget too and looking at Mitsibushi Pajero / Shogun / Challanger.............2.8 is better than the 2.5 if looking for a diesel. I am actually going with a 3.5 petrol as it will be used minimal mileage and you get a newer model, lower mileage for you money. Otherwise Nissan Terrano would be my 2nd choice and better on fuel if using it more often.

If you can wait you will get a better deal when the weather improves as dealers will want to get rid.
