Hi

My Hyundai Santa Fe (13yo) went in a month ago for a clutch replacement. It was driving ok but struggling to tow and clutch slipping.

It is now back in for the 5th time.

The garage have now put three replacement clutches in-at their expense.

They have come up with various explanations as to why it keeps failing and have sought advice from Hyundai.

It broke down on Monday while I was towing with pony and kids.

I have owned this car for seven years and never had any clutch issues until recently.

What I want to know is where do I stand if they can't fix it, given I have paid in full for an unsuccessful repair and have had to beg borrow etc to get transport to PC etc.

I don't want to spend any more money on it as you can imagine-and don't see why I should.

But every time it comes back the same fault recurs!

Odd,its very difficult to bodge somthing as straightforward as a clutch change, let alone 3 times. What weight are you trying to tow?

Have you checked your trailer - and ensured the brake is not sticking on or nothing is binding - this WILL drag on the tow vehicle & burn your clutch.
This would be my 1st port of call if there is no dragging on clutch when not towing.

Hope you do manage to sort this out :)

Been towing with no probs at all two light ponies been all over the pace for last 7 years so its not my driving or the weight I am towing because the last clutch lasted all that time. They have now replaced the flywheel as well and are looking at replacing a hose which they think is blocked. This has all happened over last month!

Can't disagree but have had clutch slip when only back a day or two and before I had towed anything so still feel it's down to the car. The car has been in and out of the garage since 21st May. Each time it comes back they say they have fixed it and each time the clutch slips again-whether or not I have been towing.

Changing the flywheel, whilst not normal ,could well be the answer. If you cooked it good and proper it may well be glazed and distorted. I also understand where they are coming from with the flexible hose. Sounds like they are doing everything right. Faults that are difficult to find do happen. Repairs would cost a fortune if we changed everything ,rather than just the normal components .

They have just brought it back filled with diesel and admitted their utter embarrassment. They are usually a very good garage and we have never had any previous issues. Fingers crossed they have cracked it this time.
