I know it isn't the best choice of cars. I need a trailer for a 10 minute drive to the vets every now and again so I wont be up and down the country.

Its a 2.3 petrol 2wd car. I have checked the towing weight and it's close to the max with horse and trailer. I won't be anywhere muddy. All on roads and as I said 10 minute drive to the vets when needed and maybe a 5 minute drive to a bridle way for hacking.

Is this doable?

As long as it's with weight then no problem. Before the current fad of must have a 4x4 to tow, most trailers were towed with the family saloon.
I've towed with, cavalier, mondeo, Volvo 245. All totally fine.

As long as its legal and you are confident with the setup I dont see why not.

Editied to add: I have a 4x4 but tow in 2wd mode unless im in a field with it.

You've checked the weights, so it should be fine. It's never ideal when you're close to the limits, but for short distances you should be ok. (I towed with various fairly elderly cars for donkey's years.)

Maybe plan your route to avoid hill starts or tricky junctions, when you may wish that you'd got a bit more welly.
