Hi, as title, just trying to solve a transport issue we have, and this is one of the options I’m looking into. Anyone on here tow with a small horsebox? I have all the relevant licence qualifications. Tia.

I have known people do it, and rara007 has a large stabling/carriage trailer on the back of hers which I'm sure is 4.5T

I've towed caravans and trailers from 7.5 and bigger.
Have got a tow bar on my 3.5 but only once needed it to take someone elses trailer home (with 2 x 15hh in it and a 14hh in my box) when their car went pop.
Ensure you have a decent enough engine so strain on it isn't too bad.

What does the plate on the 4.5 tonner state - the top 2 numbers of the 4 listed will do
What is the plated MAM of the trailer?
free Pre 97 C1+E has a code which restricts the driver to a total of 8250kgs so trailer cannot be plated at more than 3750kg IF that is the licence being used

Yes as above we tow either a big carriage trailer (longer and taller than a horse trailer) or flatbed behind ours. Some 4.5tonnes have pretty weedy towing capacities.

Thanks Rog. Not been built yet which is why I need to find out before I go ahead. The trailer though is the Ifor Williams HBX511 which I think is less than 1000kg now? On the odd occasion I need to travel 3 horses, this is the preferred option? I’m old so can tow anyway? daughter passed her trailer test and is currently training for her cat C.

BE and C will not cover her for C1+E
HBX is about 2700 MAM so well under the max I mentioned for a pre 97 C1+E
