I have just become the proud owner of a 4x4 that can tow! As I havnt passed the towing test yet, I have a few questions:

Am I correct in thinking that you can tow as long as you have L plates and someone in the car that passed before 1997?

If so, where do you have to put the L plates (sorry, stupid question...!)

And can anyone reccommend a good place for lessons in the north west - I have never towed anything in my life, and I was never very good at reversing even in my little corsa!

And any other advice much appreciated, thanks!

I spoke to the DVLA, local police station and my car insurance company (anal

) and all 3 confirmed that yes I could tow a laden trailer with L plates and someone over 21 who has held a B+E license for over 3 years sitting next to me.

I put the L plates on the front of car and the back of the trailer - people REALLY get out of my way PMSL

I've been towing the horses about for a few weeks now and it definitely gets easier the more you do it.

i put 2 on the front of the car and 2 on the back of the trailer - overkill! trouble is it made people pull out in front of me even more - they saw trailer and learner and assumed i'd be dawdling around - v annoying!

you need to get the catagory added to your license as a provisional

no, you dont! your full driving license automatically gives you a provisional licence to tow a trailer.

why dont people get their facts straight before posting misleading advice? or at least say that you're not sure!
