I would be grateful if somebody could recommend a suitable horsebox/trailer for me to buy in order to transport a 17.1H and 18.0H horse together aswell as a suitable 4x4 that can tow it. Thank you.

Hmm I wouldn't want to put an 18hh horse in many trailers tbh. Some of the equi trek models can carry 2 18hh horses or maybe something like a Pegasus beta

4x4 wise you would need something big like a defender or lwb shogun I would think but that would depend on the trailer you end up with and the weight of your horses. Do you know how much they weigh?

I have a ifor 510 and my 17.2hh has to travel alone partition out as he struggled to get out of it comfortably and started to panic. I'd say you will struggle with a ifor for two horses that size. But I'm just basing that on seeing my 1 17.2hh in the trailer.

I can'r recommend you a trailer & 4x4 in all good conscience, for carrying two horses or that size & weight I wouldn't consider anything other than a lorry........sorry.

Thank you for the advice, in total, they weigh about 1400kg.

I have comfortably and regularly travelled 17.1hh and 17hh boys (both chunky not sticky types) together in Ifor 510 - they have loads of room at the back and headroom. No space issues at all.

I tow with old landcruser which has a weight limit of 3000kgs, Trailer is 1000kgs and horses are 650kgs each (17hh checked on weighbridge at 640 kgs so pretty confident of weight) so total towing weight is c.2400kgs well under the cars limit.

OP perhaps see if you can find someone with a 510/ 511 (the new version which I've not seen so don't know if it;s as big) to load them into and see how the space works.

That's very helpful, thank you. Will look into it. Should be one to borrow at the stable.

According to Ifor Williams own page the Ifor Williams "HB511 is suitable for carrying two horses up to 17.2hh." http://www.iwt.co.uk/products/horsebox/hb511?tab=details

I didn't see anything on Equi Trek's page about their trailers being suitable for horses up to so or so size, but when I looked at their technical information about Internal dimensions height, the Trail Treka L http://www.equi-trek.com/uk/horse-trailers/trail-treka-l , Space Treka L http://www.equi-trek.com/uk/horse-trailers/space-treka-l , Space Treka III http://www.equi-trek.com/uk/horse-trailers/space-treka-3 and Star Treka http://www.equi-trek.com/uk/horse-trailers/star-treka, seems to be their "tallest" models.

The Pegasus Beta seems to be for horses under 16.2hh, but I did find some trailers that says they're for horses above 16.2 or 16.3hh, however, it doesn't say how much over that height the horses can be?

For horses over 16.2/16.3hh:
The Pegasus Equestrian http://www.towinghorsetrailers.co.uk/trailer/1047 , Rice Beaufort Sixty http://www.ricetrailers.co.uk/NetBu...ml?PHPSESSID=17971ec64b1092f5b629fdfae57be558 , Richardson Supreme Grande http://www.towinghorsetrailers.co.uk/trailer/1057, Richardson Supreme Ultra http://www.towinghorsetrailers.co.uk/trailer/1057 and Richardson Supreme Excel http://www.towinghorsetrailers.co.uk/trailer/1059 .

Found two old HHO threads (Is there a trailer which will carry an 18hh horse? and Trailer for an 18hh horse?):

Little_flea bought a Cheval Liberte 2003 XL to her 17.2hh horse http://www.angliantrailers.co.uk/Anglian_Trailers_Section/sales/cheval/cheval_2003xl.html .

Langside had/have a neighbour with a big boy (I presume that that means a large horse) and a Wessex Olympia trailer, the info says that is for horses up to 17.2hh http://www.jswhorseboxes.co.uk/horse-trailers-wessex-olympian.php .

Ludi-doodi said that Equitrek Space Treka L apparently takes horses up to 18hh http://www.equi-trek.com/uk/horse-trailers/space-treka-l .

Alibear posted links to Rice Beaufort Sixty http://www.ricetrailers.co.uk/NetBu...ml?PHPSESSID=1ef76ede3b1076a5e767c533812ef4e4 and Richardson Supreme Ultra http://www.richardsontrailers.co.uk...ml?PHPSESSID=673d3caa4423de298bd00ffff216add1 .

Mtj recommended having a look at Böckmann Big Master http://www.boeckmann.com/_eng/pferdeanhaenger_inhalt_details_eng_138219.php .

EgerdenFarmStud travelled two 17.2hh horses in a Fautras trailer, but couldn't remember which model it was, the one with tallest inside height that I found was Fautras Promax http://www.jswhorseboxes.co.uk/horse-trailers-jean-luc-fautras-promax.php .

Horseantics have a Richardson Supreme Ultra and a horse that is 18.2hh, and says that there is plenty of room in that trailer http://www.richardsontrailers.co.uk/NetBuildPro/process/57/SupremeUltra.html .

Competitiondiva have a Richardson Supreme Grand suitable for 2x17.2hh, and said that the Richadson Supreme Ultra is even bigger (see links above).

The watcher mentioned that brands like Pegasus might be able to custom build a trailer.

My interest in cars is somewhat limited, so except from that you need a car with four tyres, an engine and a few other things, I have no idea what would be suitable to tow any of the above trailers, but I couldn't resist doing a little trailer "window-shopping" :o , I hope you find something that suits you and your horses.

Wow!!! You have been incredibly helpful. This is alot of work, I do appreciate it. Thanks a million.

I tow a trailer quite often but I have to say I would think twice about towing two such big horses in one trailer nor any sort of little horsebox. Is it just a one-off journey, could you hire a lorry?
