Towing question

I passed my driving test in 2006 so am not able to tow without passing that B+E thing.
But my question is, you know when you are learning to drive you are allowed to go out with someone in the car that has at least three years of holding a full driving liscense, can you do the same thing with towing a trailer? As in have a towing pro in car with you so you can learn to tow? Hope that makes some sort of sense!!!?

As from last year you can only have someone who has passed the trailer test themselves and has a valid full driving licence with that class recorded on it.
 
Id like to know be same thing as i passed my test in 2001 and as far as im aware u can only tow if passed before 1997. I have been told u can tow either L plates so long as u have someone with a licence to tow sat next to you.

Firstly, you ARE allowed to tow with just a B licence - click the link in my signature at the bottom of this post entitled TOWING CLINIC to see many examples

All those with a B licence will have provisional B+E on the paper part of their licence so you can go out with a B+E supervising driver, with a fully loaded trailer as long as that supervising driver is over age 21, has held B+E for at least 3 years, have L plates fitted to front of vehicle and rear of trailer, along with the correct insurance for a B+E learner
 
Yes you can tow providing the person with you has grand father rights (old licence) or the person has passed the B+E test and has had these categories for a year (I think) not 100% on how long you must of held the licence before you can sit with someone. Also make sure you have L plates on the vehicle and trailer then your legal :) xx

Give me these figures and I'll let you know if you can tow on a B licence with your current set up ..... in kgs please

Not so, this only applies to lorries 3.5 - 7.5t. You may still tow with L plates and a driver who passed before '97. I can see why it it within the interests of the driving schools who give towing lessons to lead people to believe that what you say is the case!

Just to be a bit more informative and possibly pedantic...

In April 2010 new driver supervising laws came into force which restricted supervising drivers in all C and D categories

Those new laws now require the supervising driver to have actually passed the DSA test that covers that category along with the usual supervising requirements
