I have a SEAT Alhambra 1.9L TDI Auto. (2002)
I'm told this can tow 2000kg braked but I dont really understand how it's all calculated etc..?? I'm assuming weight of empty trailer plus weight of horse should be equal to under 2000kg..??
Help needed for the thicko 😳😳😳😳

Thanks, I am unlikely to be the one towing thankfully and the friend who will has an old licence where you are allowed to tow :)
Does the weight of anything in the car itself count toward to towing weight??

No, it doesn't count. The car can tow 2000kg, so it doesn't matter what/who is in the car that 2000kg figure is just what it can pull. (It only matters whos in the car if you're trying to get under 3.5 ton MAM which you aren't as friend has a old licence)

So as long as the trailer and what is in it, is under 2000kg you're fine.
My Freelander use to be able to tow 2000kg, my 506 trailer is about 950kg plus my cob, plus water, we never use to tow more than 1.7 ton with it and it was fine. :)

Someone correct me if I am wrong, but sure thats correct.

You are correct

I’d say it’s not the type of vehicle I’d associate with towing horses. It’s also quite an old vehicle, so engine performance not likely to be optimal.
I’d want to be sure the chassis was very solid (hopefully you will be told when fitting a Towbar!) and the engine, brakes and clutch also super reliable.

Double check the spec for your exact model to confirm the 2T capacity

Having viewed another towing thread on here I'm wondering if my Alhambra will have the guts to tow a horse and trailer?? 🤔🤔🤔 Or will it explode....

That's where I'm at at the minute. Which is ridiculous as mine is a 4x4 and has been towing 1500/1600kgs fine. I think its because theres nothing to worry about with the horse at the minute so I'm worrying about the car instead!

I suppose the difference here is that yours is a big car not a 4x4. If you are towing a lightweight trailer with one in it I cant see there being an issue. Michen made a very good point that they wouldn't put a towing limit on cars if towing that much would knacker them. I'm still going back and forward about it all though!

Thanks...its already got a towbar and definitely has a 2T towing capacity. It's a pretty solid vehicle to be fair but I would get my garage to give it a good look at before towing.
I wouldn't be going very far but obviously would want it to be safe....it would only be one horse and a low trailer.
