Hey

First i'll introduce myself, i'm steph and i currently own an ex-race horse, Fred who is a walking war zone and hopefully soon to be, Jaz a 5yr tb/paint. I'm looking to invest in a car that can tow a lightweight trailer/single trailer but i don't really know what is suitable and what isn't. I was looking at small 4 wheel drives i.e suzuki vitara and daihatsu sportrak and maybe vauxhall frontera sport, but i am unsure as to whether these would even be suitable. If they aren't suitable then i think i'm going to have to think of something else as i can't really afford a really big car, my insurance would be sky high! Any opinions welcome!

Steph

Hi Steph, well not sure about the cars you mention but I can totally recommend the Jeep Cherokee, I have the 2.5L petrol, old shape. Even though it isn’t up to towing to big horses in an Ifor it will tow one big one or two small uns. It isn’t as big as some of the larger 4x4s but still feels like a decent 4x4.

Oh and welcome to the forum!

Fourtrak is better at towing than the sportrak and they aren't that big. Misibushi Pajaro/shogun is a good puller and come in 3 door if you don't want anything too big.
I'm not sure about the other two you mentioned, they may be fine for pulling.

SWB Shogun
Daihatsu 4Trak
Cherokee Jeep

or if your budget stetches a nice Toyota Collorado.

Wouldn't even entertain towing one horse with a Suzuki or a Sportrak - they're not heavy enough. If you're on a tight budget then I would go with what some of the others have mentioned - Fourtrak, Shogun/Pajero, Isuzu Trooper even.

Try a 2.5L TD Landrover... I still have one for sale
