I have a Jag f Pace with a towing capacity of 2500kg. My trailer is a HB506 weighing 920kg. Can I tow 2 horses both at 550kg or would I be over the limit? X

Does the contents of the vehicle matter? I thought it was strictly towing capacity? I’m so confused with all the rules etc 😕
No, they don’t, as long as the vehicle’s gross train weight is not exceeded. That figure will be somewhere on your vehicle.

The gross train weight is the weight of the fully-loaded car plus fully-loaded trailer and must not be exceeded.

Unladen weight of 506 is 920kg.
Add 1100kg weight of your two horses = 2020kg.

This is legally within both the 2500kg tow weight limit of your car and the 2600kg max gross weight of your trailer.

you can work out the cars payload by subtracting the kerbweight and towing capacity from the MAM, all should be on your vin plate. i hurt my head trying to wrap my head around it, but i was also trying to work it out before i viewed my car so spent ages trying to find all the info, and every page calls it something different🤣
