Hi, I'm completely fed up with having to organise transport for when I want to go to shows - does anyone have any advice on towing vehicles for trailers (only 2 horses with a maximum weight of 2 tons), and can recommend any? It needs to be something I can park in the street (I live in Richmond and live in a busy street where parking spaces are not easy to come by :p )
Thanks :)

There is more choice around for smaller 4x4's which can tow around 2k and are more economical to run. The newer Honda CRV from around 2007/8 would fit the bill, especially if you get the model with the reversing camera - helpful for hitching and parking. I had one and loved it although didn't tow at the time. I seem to recall it had some setting for towing to help the engine deliver more 'pull'

I have the short wheel base mitsubishi pajero - mine is older N reg and has never missed a beat - tows beautifully, is reliable and fairly easy to park, they are also fairly cheap to buy! Only downside is that it does drink fuel but then again most do!

Rav4 newest model tows quite well!! Also I think the new 2.2 jeep has enough torque too and also got a friend who tows 2 15.2's with a lwb Suzuki grand vitara 58 reg so new shape!!

I am happy with a Jeep Cherokee 2.4 sport. Got it pretty cheap - ex dealer and it tows up to 2200kg which equates to two med size horses, trailer and tack. Mileage is around 25 mpg.

Word of advice - BE SURE that the 4 x 4 is rated to tow at least 2000kg or more. Handy tip - go on one of the car sales webs sites - I use Parkers, search for the model you are interested in and when you find it, click on the technical specification box. This takes you to a window full of lots of (boring) info about engine spec, etc but importantly gives you the braked and unbraked towing capacity. Good luck!
