Another vote for the Jeep Cherokee, it's really great, we've towed ifor flat beds with cars on & our caravan and it just eats up the miles, the road tax is rather painful though, so beware

Terranos are getting old now, but if you can find one without rusty sills (the imports are better) then they do the job, and on less fuel than some of the competition. Super cheap now too.

Older ones also lower on tax.

Loves my 9 yo BMW X1, xdrive 4x4 automatic. Has more than 250,000 kms on it, and purs like a kitten. Its big enough for horse use and small enough for everyday work commute. Tows 2000 kgs which is enough for my 900 kg trailer and two horses. If I towed them both regularly I’d probably go for the X3 with 2400 kgs, to not max out on capacity. (My husband is rolling his eyes...😂)
