To drive legally on the roads the unladen (kerb) weight of your vehicle must weigh more than the weight of the fully loaded trailer.

The heavier the towing vehicle the safer it will all be especially in an emergency situation wheer you have to brake suddenly or skid.

Not true - that only applies if you passed your driving test after 1997 and have not taken the towin test, otherwise how can a Discovery having a towing limit of 3.5tonnes but only weigh approx 2? The legal towing weight of any vehicle is that in the manufacturer's handbook, providing you have your B+E licence.

I have had a Daihatsu Fourtrak and a Landrover Disco in the days when I had a trailer. Fourtrak's are fab but they stopped making them so it would depend on what age vehicle you are looking for. My Disco was fab and much more luxurious - luxury is a help if it's your only vehicle and you have to use it every day. It tows upto 3.5 mt legally from memory. I would not recommend a frontera. Isuzu's seem popular.

Thank you for all your help.

I liked the look of the HOnda CRV but the towing weight is very low. Not sure if the Nissan X-trail will do the job??

JUst want to get to shows dont really care how!!!!

Wouldn't go for the Honda, but x-trail should cope with just one horse - wouldn't want to tow any more with it though. I had a Freelander and was very pleased with that to tow just the one. Now have a Disco as needed to flexibility to tow 2 and I'm pleased with that as well.
