Towing with a Audi A6 Avant?

I’m wondering if anyone has or is pulling with a Audi Avant 2.7 tdi. The unbraked towing capacity is 2100kg and I want to pull 1 16hh medium weight horse in a older style Ifor Williams trailer (don’t have model details unfortunately ) I’m trying to figure out what I can and can’t do and it’s blowing my mind ??‍♀️. I don’t want to buy something super expensive and that I can’t use as my everyday car as I’m going travelling in 2 years and the horse is a loan horse. Self drive transport is over 1 hours drive away so makes things tricky.

Your combination should be well within the towing capacity of the car. The trailer is probably around 840/900 kg, the horse perhaps 600/650 kg. I tow a 1400 kg caravan with a 2 litre Audi A4 diesel with ease, so, in theory, your combination should work. Try towing the trailer without a horse but with some bales of hay in the back, or a full water container, to see how it feels before you put a horse in.

I was going to buy one but obviously don’t want to if it’s not going to tow as I already have other vehicles. :(.

I already knew that was what the car would tow as I’ve written it in the add I just wasn’t sure how if it works well as a have read about a non 4x4 swaying around in the wind. I guess I just do t want to buy one and then it can’t do a job :( it’s really stressful! ?

With any towing combination, the swaying is determined more by load distribution in the trailer than anything. Make sure your tyres are good, rated appropriately and fully inflated, and never tow a back-end heavy trailer.

Thanks. I think I’ll buy it and have a play around with it without the horse to see how it feels. Thanks for the advice, really helpful :)

We have a Scout, it will do your job superbly well. It's a regular estate car but it is geared and set up to tow easily.

I got over 50mpg from it on a 400 mile non towing round trip back in the summer, mostly at 70 mph on NSL roads and with the air con full on. I stepped out of it fresh as a daisy, too, it's so easy and stable to drive.
