Towing with a Freelander

Mine's been fine through snow, ice and mud just lately, tows fine and drives to and from work 32 mile round trip) excellently. Two-litre diesel. On my second and wouldn't hesitate to buy another. I even pulled a shavings delivery truck out of the mud which got stuck on our field.

I'd only tow with something doubly capable.

My father tows daily, working as a dispatcher at a large caravan centre. He hates any of the Freelanders for towing with a passion, gutless and not capable of anything much should you get to a show and get bogged down with a fully laden trailer. It's his most hated towing car!

I had a 55 plate freelander for 4 years and loved it.

Used it to tow my 510 and 17.2 with no issues over hill and dale and found it to be stable and effective.

Also used it on occasion for my then yearling and her highland buddy. No issues there either.

Would recommend :)

Second this! I have pulled a few freelanders complete with trailers out of mud and one even off wet grass!! With a Trooper:D:rolleyes: They are often fitted with useless low profile road tyres too!!

I can't quote for towing, but they are brilliant off roaders. They may not be as good as a defender, but then a defender is a rubbish commuting car. A freelander is the best of both worlds.

Tell that to the lady stuck in the mud with one last week whom I pulled out!! Friend had one all of a month too - friggin useless, they have a Navara now to go shooting with....Stand by the fact they are soft roaders for city driving.

As a round about town car my freelander is brilliant, I have the 2L diesel and its really economical for a 4x4. Its also great off road, in all the deep mud + deep snow this year I've never once gotten stuck, and have towed a trailer with 50 small hay bales up and down the track no problem.

Because of the size + weight of the car I'd only ever tow one horse, and I wouldn't got anywhere I knew there's steep inclines or there's likely to be deep mud.

Its not the greatest towing car for peopke who need to tow big weight, but for people who need a cheaper four wheel drive for an everyday car and a pootle to a few shows a month its perfect :)
