Im due to change the mobility car before long and will now need a people carrier type vehicle as it will need to accomodate a wheelchair ramp etc.
Is it feasible to use such a vehicle to tow a lightweight trailer with horse?? Would mainly be to go to lessons fairly locally and the odd training clinic type thing.
I realise that muddy fields etc would be an issue but would be unlikely to use the vehicle for that type of terrain.
Also it would be an auto as a problem with my back on the left side etc means I no longer drive a manual.

What is the vehicle or do you know the GVW and towing capacity for it?

What licence do you have - B or B+E?

Would the wheelchair be loaded from the rear and if towing could that be an issue?

ROG will crunch the numbers for you as to what you can tow with a people carrier, but it is possible to tow with an automatic car as long as you are aware of the limitations.

Do you live out in the sticks on narrow lanes? If so, and you have to pull over partially onto the verge to let another vehicle pass, you may find yourself stuck with your wheels spinning. I towed with various 2wd cars for years, and was able to cope ok as long as I was very careful as to my route and the parking at the end destination.

Hill starts are another potential problem, which is tricky if you have no alternative at a junction. So if you have wide-ish roads in a flattish area you should be ok if the vehicle has enough poke to tow.

Browsing the towinghorsetrailers site, they list the following (capable of towing 2000kgs)

Ford Galaxy
Seat Alhambra
VW Sharan
Hyundai i800

I actually thought they were some small vans (like the Kangoo) that were 4WD but then they may not tow much. The Hyundai i800 looks a bit like a van so has side doors. Not sure if a people carrier or a van!
