Before anyone jumps in about weights and capabilities, the manual can tow 2 tonne which is enough for the one horse I carry around, haven't needed to take two for over a year now so not too concerned on that front. Basically I'm after a decent tow car which does a respectable mpg as I'm doing about 25000 miles a year so anything less than 40mpg is just crippling! Am also referring to the "new" antara ie since the facelift which gives it the 2.2L engine not the original 2.0L.

Anyone towed with one or know someone that does? Experiences, good or bad welcomed.

Thanks for any input (also in CR but thought would widen the audience for input)

Doubt if you wil get many answers. For most trailers currently on sale it would be illegal. Even if you only had one horse in. Its all about the max weight the trailer can go up to, not what is actually in it.

NOT QUITE CORRECT

It depends on what licence is being used - B or BE

I will assume that it is BE
Max trailer plated MAM weight = 3.5 tonnes
Max ACTUAL weight = what is listed for towing vehicle

There is no law that states the MAM weight must not exceed the manufacturers towing capacity - why this MYTH is still doing the rounds I shall never know!!

It's an odd post, you ask people's opinions and then say you don't want to be told it doesn't have the guts.

I only (ever) tow one horse, she weighs 600kg. I have a big Ifor Williams 510. So together I am towing 1600kg. I would not like to pull that with a vehicle that is only rate to tow 2000kg. It's a personal choice. I have heard people say they only tow in flat areas, but what happens if you get diverted and have to hit a steep hill ?

I personally wouldn't want to tow a horse with a vehicle with that small towing capability.
