Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has any experience towing with a VW Tiguan 2.0 BiTDI DSG 4WD (240bhp)?
It states that engine can tow up to 2.5T but is it gutsy enough or will it struggle?

I’d be towing a Ifor Williams 511 or 506 with my 16hh TB (595kg) but would it also cope towing a second horse if I wanted to?

Looking for a economical everyday car that also has the ability to tow if I want too! (If such car exists!!)

Helpful advice and experiences would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I had a passat alltrack (2.0l engine, 2.2t towing) and it pulled my huge old richardson (1100kg) and clydesdale (800-850kg) comfortably. It was economic to run when not towing and not horrendous when towing. I generally hear good things about the VWs as tow cars.

I have one, but I think I have the 2l version as my towing capacity is only 2.2t so I couldn't entertain towing a second horse even if I wanted to as Dex is touching 700kg by himself.
It's lovely to tow with, but I woud get a seatbelt plug as mine won't move unless I have the seatbelt plugged in which is annoying for hitching and/or driving through shut gates.
Good as an every day car too, not too juicy, comfortable, and the auto box is lovely.

From an everyday point of view, the DSGs (VW autos) are lovely to drive!
Is the DSG just the auto? I'm looking to get a 2018 that can 2,500kg.
I live in a dull flat part of the midlands and plan to tow a 510. Mainly with a 16.3 TB with the odd journey with a Connie...

I should be OK with that shouldn't I?

Sorry to hijack thread x

Yes, DSG is just an auto.
If I were you, I would get someone with a weighbridge out to weigh the two of them and double check.. don't forget you have to include weight of humans, tack, water, fuel etc in that weight. People drive overloaded all the time but if you get caught you're buggered, if you get into an accident you're buggered and could kill someone or yourself if your brakes aren't sufficient, and you will be putting extra strain on the engine/breaks etc of the car you have just invested in. So IMO, even though it's irritatingly common, it's not something I would risk.

I tow a 510 and a 656kg ID with my Tiguan that can tow 2.2t and it copes very well, even up steep hills

Thank you for your reply x

I'll need to practice towing so I'll include a weighbridge trip
