Whenever I tow my Bateson Deauville, the air con in my car stops working. Its a BMW X5 with a factory fitted towbar. I have to use an adaptor to connect up the electrics as the towbar is designed for a caravan. Has anyone else had or heard of this problem?

I would guess someone has conected the tow bar electrics up wrong so something is back feeding, best bet is to find an auto electician..
does it go off altogether ?? any other faults ???

I think you will find its quite a rare option to have fitted on a bmw:D most people
go for the motorway outside lane homing device instead!!!!

And the reason they always look so confused and cross is that they cannot understand what all these other people are doing on THEIR road.

I used to tow with an X5 with a BM fitted towbar - no problems at all. I'd take it in for the electrics to be tested as perfect11s suggested.

At one point we had an X5 and a Z4 coupe & got no end of clever comments about BM drivers, now we have 2 BMW motorbikes instead & get a lot less hassle :D

I've been told its some sort of software problem and BMW are aware of it and can correct by updating the electronics. So if anyone else comes across this - go to the dealer and ask for the updated software to be loaded. As one of the replies pointed out, not that many X5's have a towbar so some of the dealers don't seem to know about this.
