Toy Poodles?

I know where there is a stunning pup in the westcountry

What are you looking for? dog or bitch, show or pet, any colour preferences?
Be careful as there are a lot of puppy producers who don't eye test ...vital in Poodles... and who have a ped litter, then a cross litter,on alternate litters, poor little dogs are full time money machines.
One (of the many!!

) reason I am so picky where my pups go!!!!

One of the better all breed sites with poodle pages is http://www.champdogs.co.uk/ or http://www.dogclub.co.uk

http://www.ukpoodles.com/ is an very good site for Poodles too

These sites tend to have a better class of breeder , who health test and breed sensibly.....and none of the Crossbred or unregistered ones - Which Epuz is full of , there some good breeders on Epupz, but they are in the minority .... it is mainly BYBers and Dealers! So be very careful on there.... make sure you see BOTH parents Test results, and get KC registration papers too!!

or Try the KC or breed clubs ... they are on the poodles UK site.

My advice would be to visit a championship dog show, and buy a catalogue. All exhibitors will be listed with telephone numbers and addresses. Visit the ringside and when judging is over, not before approach some exhibitors who in general are more than happy to give you advice and help finding a breeder. Visit http://www.ourdogs.co.uk/ and click on show calendar.

Have fun, we used to have toy poodles, then moved onto standards but have none now, we do miss them..

Good idea, but annoyingly not everyone lists their details in the catalogues these days, even at open shows ...a sad sign of the times; Dognappers can look at who is present at a show and give the address /numbers to their buddy's - they ring to see if there is a dog sitter, if no reply, in they go for dogs or goods!

That is so bad, a sign of the times no doubt!! It's been a few years since I bought a catalogue, and certainly over here in NI most people were listed, it was a great way to make contact with breeders. Nothing is safe anymore!

Not necessarily. I went to see several dogs that were advertised on epupz and they were all well bred dogs who came from loving homes. There probably are some BYBs on there, but they are by no means the majority. Just because someone advertises their puppies on somewhere like epupz doesn't mean they are bad breeders of bad puppies, perhaps they just want them to go to a loving pet home rather than a show home.

There is nothing wrong with crossbreeds or dogs who aren't quite show quality. My dog isn't KC registered, she isn't show quality, and she was advertised on a site very similar to epupz. She has an amazing temperament considering her breed, has no health problems and I wouldn't swap her for the world. If you're not planning on showing or breeding, then it isn't necessary to have a perfect show dog (which no doubt you will end up paying double the price for).

Sorry to be pedantic, but show breeders don't sell show dogs to the average Joe--they sell pet quality pups. Top breeders invest a lot of time--and money--on their chosen breed, and I think it's good to get a dog that comes with cleared hips/knees, tested eyes etc. etc. For pedigree dogs, it's just not worth the risk to play Russian roulette with health. I mean, how many people on this board would get a GSD from breeding stock that hadn't been hip-tested? Sometimes BYBs think that their word is good enough.

The winner of the Terrier group at Crufts was sold to an average Joe (by the woman who was showing it) it ended up coming back to her as a rescue will all kinds of problems and then went on to be a really good show dog!

Agreed it won't happen very often - but obviously does sometimes!

Which means that the breeder probably had a compulsory return clause

should the arrangement not work out. If starting out as the owner of a show dog, you usually have to prove your worth to a breeder--helping out at shows (love the term "bucket bitch"
grin.gif
), come with a good reference from a mutual friend--if you intend to carry on breeding that line. I'm sure a few slip through the loophole, but the breeders I know are a bit precious about who their dogs go to, and whether new owners are allowed to breed from them or not.

I hate to disagree... but.... the average 'Designer' crossbreed costs up to TWICE the price of a good health tested KC reg pup!!!
Many are on sale on sites for £1-2000 !!!!!!
There are good breeders and bad producers... not ALL people on Epupz are bad , just have to be aware of those that are!
on the site today on first page are just 4 KC registered litters , and only 2 from eye tested parents !!!!
4 x breed ..one @£650 per pup!!!
10 unregistered (or reg?? with dog lovers club .. which will 'register' crossbeds and means nothing at all!!) one litter at £750.. way above the price of a pet puppy from health tested KC reg parents.
How many of these will give help and advise to the new owners?
How many will take back a dog they have bred ???

I have nothing against xbreeds .. I do have issues with those who breed them for money and care nothing for the health or welfare of what they produce!

Thanks for all the information we did speak to a breeder at crufts and she was very helpful we then went to the KC stand and got a print out of breeders but not many in our area, anyway went to look at a few yesterday and think we have found the perfect pup...watch this space.
