having always rescued older dogs this abit of a new experience and so Dexter is reaching 16 weeks old and is in the stage of chewing and teething before I head to the petshop and maybe buy the wrong thing can anyone recommend some toys etc to help him through this that you have found useful. He has a rope toy and a rubber teether but hes not really using them he prefers the rug!

You could try puppy kongs. You can also put treats in some of them as well so that they are kept active trying to get them out. If you google puppy kong you'll find them though I got them from a pet shop.

Flavoured puppy nyla bones. im not sure if that is the exact spelling.
U can also get these really cool dummy looking things like what babies get, I saw my clients giving their bassets them to chew and they where loving it, looks well soothing.

Frozen carrots.......cold soothes sore gums and carrot won't cause pup to put on weight.

Alternatively, get an old tea towel, put a knot in the middle of it and soak it in some stock (not stock cubes as too salty, but proper old fashioned stock from boiling up a chicken carcass). Then freeze.

HTH

The dummies are from Kong, they are called Binkies and you can have pink or blue. Our Patterdale pup loves hers, she's on her second one having chewed the first one up

Our pup is loving a sock stuffed with ol socks then knotted at foot and ankle end. So simple but he loves it. He is very soft mouthed though and finds harder bone type things and toys too hard. Also you can get the soft squeaky toys - got a soft squaky pup sized tpy from ASDA for 90p!

I was googling to find those chewy things the bassets found so soothing (they are not binkies) by the way, but they look cool too.

I found this, which looks cool :D

LMAO, nope, I have dropped it loads of time, literally got up off the chair and it's fallen off the arm and thudded on the floor and cracked the casing :o Im not sure if the buttons got knacked then, and now they have dissapeared , so cannot even re-attach, the last one I spilt WKD all over it and it got so sticky I could not even press the buttons down:o and the last one (im ashamed to say) it was getting on me tits taking ages to load and freezing, so I punched the screen and pounded me fists on the keyboard, and the screen went green then it went blank.........forever!:o

I won't even mention the mobiles I have fecked up, the latest a motorola defy! OH got it thinking "this may last her" and I lost it in the field on day 2, OH had to go tramping around field phoning it :o

Edited cos I said motorola deny! LMAO

I knocked mine off the arm of the sofa last week it gave me this blue screen with a load of words I didnt understand. I just did the good old failsafe. Turn it off and on again. OH would kill me if he knew... I have probably killed its technical mumbo jumbo.

You should keep yer phone in your bra! Mine is so tightly packed in theres no room for manouver (sp?) but it does look very dodgy when you try and get it out in public!

Thanks cayla those fish look good! I got him the nylabone starter kit he's demolished the puppy bone! Tried carrots he's shredded them everywhere so maybe that's a no any other ideas? I have heard there's a toy you can freeze anyone know of it?

We'd had the chicken for about 5 months Frank had looked after it he tends to then have a mad moment and destroy it but this poor toy got it within the week of dexter coming home!! He's now on the older dog bone and loving it!

Oh no, that one squeaks, he goes ballistic at squeaky toys, which is why I was fairly limited what I could get.
To say they are for dogs, some of them aren't particularly robust :(.

I know I'm fussy he will only get what I think is safe and has a purpose. He likes the rope tuggers too and they have a good tug of war with those

They often like the ropes dampened and frozen ;) or just plain ice cubes.

I also found chilled carrots very popular..... or my slippers  :D
