back in september i purchased a 15hh dark bay gelding who is a connemara cross, most likely crossed with an irish thoroughbred.

he is a 5 year old so was born in 2004 but the lady who we bought him from was the first person to get him a passport - his previous owners were, apparently, quite clueless on what to do with a youngster. whether they were his breeders or not is unknown but we have no history.

i was wondering if anyone knows of anyone who had a dark bay foal born in 2004 who was expected to make around 15hh. any information would be much appreciated as i would like to know as much as i can about his past.

have you got the name of the breeder? or if you have the horses sire
may be worth googling them

i was incredibly lucky when i googled my ponys sire, got loads of info... and the pedigree dating ages and ages back
cant really find alot on the dam

i googled the breeder, and found her address, and wrote a letter... i got a really lovely one back with a photo of pony as a baby and her pedigree...

hope this kind of helps

purchased in kent

i dont know the breeder's name or the sire or dams name

Have you looked him up on the National Equine Database? He should be on there if you have a passport, so you could put in your details and your email under the further information bit (forget what its called but you get my drift) and maybe someone will look him up one day and call you.

A long shot perhaps but worth a try.

If he is a connemara cross potentially with an Irish TB I would say there is a very good chance he was bred in Ireland. Not sure how diligent some breeders there were at registering foals 5 years ago. I know my horse was not passported until somebody bought him at 3 presumably ready to break and sell on no one had bothered till then.

Does your passport show a sire or dam or a breeder or all just unknown?
If nothing shown best thing is to get people you bought him for to give you details who they bought him from and try tracing backwards that way.
