How do I find out about my horse's past using his microchip number? He came to me without his original passport and I'd love to find out as much about him as I can.

He is microchipped but its a 985 number which I think is generic rather than country specific?

I think he's Westphalian but I can't really tell until I've clipped him as his brand is difficult to idetnify through all the woollyness.

You can ask the implanting company to contact the previous owner(s) or pass a letter on to them for you. Whether they decide to get in touch however is their perogative.

I'm not that bothered about previous owners, I have their names anyway from the people I bought Gerry from so I could google them. Its more that I'm curious about his breeding.

*Heads off to the yard to find clippers*

i just can't help but think that whoever went to the effort of microchipping him will have probably recorded his breeding details properly. I don't reckon it was the passport losers that had him chipped as they'd let his vaccinations lapse and his teeth hadn't been done for a while. You wouldn't chip a horse but ignore everything else would you?
