Does anyone know where I can trace my horses past. Any websites or stories of how you traced your horses! Really want to find out about my girlie Any advice welcome
Yeah I did my boys, he was quite easy as I googled his show name as he was a competition horse, and his competition record came up. Also contacted the names on his passport which was his stud and also the people who produced him, so got pictures and info on him from both
She's a connie x ???. Tried finding out competion record couldn't find much though! No stud name or any record of old owner apart from the one on the passports. Thanks though!
I lost my pony a few yrs ago as in I sold him to a forever home and the buyer turned out to be a dealer. It took me four years to find him again but I set up a FB page with photos/show name and his details and asked if anyone knew the pony. It took about a year for anyone to get back to me, but one day I woke up to find a message in my inbox. Not only did I find that my baby of 19yrs was safe and happy and very much loved, I was able to fill in his new owner on the vast majority of his past. Worked out fab for both of us and best of all, I have peace of mind, she understands his quirks and we're now firm friends plus I get to see the pony regularly.
With our shetland I googled the name of the breeder with the county (Derby) and eventually found her number through a classifieds ad for a pony with the same stud name.
With the appy we googled the address on his passport and found her number in the phone book. I have the family history on both of them, and the breeder even wrote to me and included photos of his parents, his half sister, his grandparents on the sire's side and a lovely pic of his mum. She even sent me photos of him as a 3yr old driving pony. Turns out he's not really an appy at all, he just looks like one! Amazing what you can find out if you dig deep enough.
My Mollie came from 100s of miles away in Scotland. She has no breeding records and no known competition past. She was called Marti until I got her.
There was a name and address on her passport but I had no joy contacting them.
The woman who sold her to me only had her two years but mentioned the name of a man who'd had her before. He works as a trek leader at a big estate. So I started there and wrote him a letter. He phoned me, explained he'd only had her a few months, but was able to give me another number to try.
Eventually I found out quite a bit, from the number he'd given me, which was a livery owner who had had Mollie on her yard for some years. Mollie's turned out to be a sad tale but at least I know now.
OP, try everything. Any names and addresses on passport (including vets) and anyone you think might have known your horse. Everything's worth a try. Good luck!
